Oh. yay. There's a feral cat I've been feeding and she caught pregnant.

She looks like a kitten herself, but I definitely notice a bulge in her waistline the last couple of weeks.

She will only come within a foot of me when eating, but I am trying to build her trust. I want to do what is right with her and socialize the kittens (if any). With luck, I hope to catch, spay, and release her before she has a relapse.

Any thoughts?

1. A cat does not get 'caught' in pregnancy.

Female cats are able to mate and get pregnant at 9 months. I don't know how to catch this cat, short of food and a net, but ai do hope you are successful to keep the kittens from being ferel.

Of course your efforts will not reduce the local population of ferel cats. The vacuum will be filled quickly.

2. I used a have-a-heart-trap to bring my last cat inside from outdoors

I borrowed the trap from the animal hospital and they gave me advice on how to do it. It took me awhile to gain enough trust, fed the cat every day and would stay and get the cat used to me. Turns out this was an abandoned spayed female. She calmed down quite a bit after veterinary care and spent the rest of her life indoors, happy to watch the outdoors from the window. Good luck with this. It mostly takes patience.

3. there's a thing they can do

they spay them and abort the fetuses. Not sure of the plural on that.

Anyway, see this link and listen to the story. It will give you plenty of info.

Also, if you don't have a trap, they may be able to get a trapper for you or loan you one.

I am sorta' in the same situation, sans the pregnant cat. I can't tell if this little feral cat I'm feeding is male or female. I'm willing to pay for the spaying or neutering and I have a trap. What I don't have is the will to trap the kitty, so I'm trying to work up to that.

Not sure where you're at, but it sounded like these type of programs exist around the country.
