(53,921 posts)Like you, I quit smoking. It has been 7 weeks. This was my first birthday (last Saturday) that I didn't smoke since I was 16! My kitty is sick. He has something wrong with his back legs. Still don't know what it is.
The weather is starting to perk up here. My cousin is making me a bit upset because she is supposed to visit today (later tonight) and yet hasn't texted me in two days with any plans.
I miss New Orleans.
Sorry, kinda a downer tonite.

(24,146 posts)i backslid on the smokes over the weekend. i've been pretty down lately and it was the comfort i turned to. it made me feel gross, but the husband bought a pack and it's hard to not just go for it. i'll get back on the train tomorrow.
it sounds like you're carrying a bit right now, peace to you.

(53,921 posts)I am using a vape cig and it is working well for me. Though, I still have moments of wanting to punch people in the throat. It's been a bad few weeks. I am sick of being sick, and then the pets got in the act, and that just stresses me out more.
But, I am enjoying a beer and about to go surfing for whatever.

(2,682 posts)I didn't get out of bed until 1:00 -- watched a couple of movies and had tea. I was supposed to leave the house at 5:00 to catch a bus to downtown Seattle to go to a movie (Seattle International Film Festival - 5/16 - 6/8). I even had the ticket to the movie. I just didn't feel like getting dressed and making that trek downtown. And, the movie was 218 minutes long. That would have put me on a street corner waiting for a bus at midnight. Now Seattle, at least the area where I catch the bus, isn't particularly scary, but all things considered, I just decided to work on my genealogy research for the day. And here it is, night, and I'm still at the computer. My next tickets for the film festival are for Friday afternoon. I'll be sure to go to those.
Take care fizz....

(24,146 posts)i know the feeling of just not wanting to get dressed, there are days it's a siren song.
enjoy your movies on friday.

(2,682 posts)to attend during the festival. Yup, I love movies. The ones in the festival are foreign or independent films, none of which will ever reach the theaters at the malls. One of the best, so far, was Difret which was produced by Angelina Jolie. About a 14 year old girl in Nigeria kidnapped on her way home from school by members of a tribe whose custom was marriage by abduction. She fought back, killed the man who raped her, was subject to the death penalty, but was represented by a women's rights organization. She survived and became an advocate for women's rights. A true story.
Another excellent movie was The Search for General Tso -- yes, General Tso of the chicken dish. It essentially was the history of Chinese food in America, which of course, was the history of Chinese in America. Very funny. The audience laughed a lot and gave a hearty round of applause at the end.
I'll wrap this up in an hour or so and get to bed....
Have a good night.

(43,049 posts)I'll tell you what happened today.
Driving through the Shinnecock reservation, two pit bulls came flying out of a driveway, with two yorkies following, and they showed great interest in my car.
I stopped so I wouldn't run them over and I couldn't see the pit bulls, but felt them slamming into the car. The yorkies were just watching and yapping. They all kind of gave up in a few minutes and I left. 10 minutes later I get a flat, and it looked like one of the pit bulls actually bit the tire.
Of course the new Chevys don't have a spare, just a bottle of Fixaflat and a compressor, which didn't work, so I had to get towed.
But, a DOG BIT MY TIRE! How many times does that happen?

(6,011 posts)called a TireBiter-
I looked on You Tube for 'pit bulls playing with tires', and there are several videos of pit bulls biting tire swings, and two getting a jaw workout on a tether ball stand made from a car tire. Those dog tire toys would be like a flimsy rubber squeaky toy to them !

(111,958 posts)For someone that is unemployed and trying to get disability I've been busy as heck this week.
I submitted a request for an unemployment check for my brother on Sunday night (my UI ran out at the end of 2012). I also read about 40-50 pages of the Redemption book that advises people to declare themselves as sovereigns to avoid taxes and credit debt. A young friend sent me a link to an e-copy of the book which is 682 pages long and full of bullshit advising people to declare themselves as "sovereigns". I hope that my friend doesn't become a Cliven Bundy recruit.
On Monday, I completed a job application form for myself for a company based in Irving. That afternoon I received a cold call from an employment recruiter who saw my resume on monster.com. I passed the initial telephone interview and the recruiter wanted to interview me on Skype so I that night I made a few more revisions to my resume and downloaded Skype on my computer and on my brother's laptop. My PC is over three years old and has Windows 7 while my brother is running Windows 8 on his laptop. I wanted to use his laptop since my PC is crashing too frequently. Anyway, I spent a couple hours that night tweaking Skype on both computers. Afterwards I spent about 3 hours cleaning the malware off of my brother's laptop since he is computer illiterate.
On Tuesday, my brother woke me up and I had to make another tweak to his laptop. The second time I awoke my brother backed out on his word that he would be away from the apartment and we had a fight which stressed me out before the Skype interview. Fortunately, I made all the correct tweaks to Skype and the interview went well. I'm hoping that I might receive a follow-up call later this week since it appears that I impressed the recruiter with my credentials. After the interview, I sent a long email to a young friend of mine that is falling into the "sovereign" person, "redemption" crap because he was naive and made some foolish mistakes that destroyed his credit rating. Provided him plenty of advice and told him to ignore the redemption crap and file a legit bankruptcy case rather than use the strategies in the "Redemption" book. I gave him a link from the Southern Poverty Law Center, provided personal insight and hopefully he can avoid making another mistake on top of the ones that got him in a jam.
On Wednesday, I submitted two job applications for my brother to earn my keep and completed two of the three report forms that need to be sent for my SS disability filing, so I only have one form left to go.
For someone who has no income, I'm working almost as hard as I did when I was employed. I also have to file at least one more job application form, but I might get a chance to take it easy tomorrow night and have a drink. It's been over two months since I've had any mind-altering substance and I could use a break.

(54,302 posts)Your post came in about 12 minutes after I got up. I had to be in Sprout City today, and to be here on time, I have to get up at around 5 AM and be out of the house shortly before 6. It's actually sunny and warm here, which pretty much means the world has turned upside down, since most of what they get here is chilly rain except when it's ice and snow.
