I have no use for personal fireworks, think they should be outlawed.

Sorry.

and yet I here fireworks going off all around me. And the authorities do not enforce the law. So, it was with amusement that I heard the next abutting town is banning fireworks for next year -- sure, it's worked so well for us, they may as well do it also. HA!

Edited to add: the cats have all found somewhere to hide in the house. The dog, not a year old yet, has been lying across my feet shivering with the noise. Poor little animals.

The fire department just made a visit to the neighbor's house, and yes, it is well after midnight. Why isn't it enough for you to watch the regular displays?

July 5th. There are explosions in the neighborhood. Not little pops and pings mind you.. But big, thunderous blasts... the kind you would expect to hear at Chrissy Field on the Fourth of July. My question is..

Where are they getting this stuff??

9. My neighbors were setting off fireworks at 1 am last night

It woke us up, and my cats were terrified and hiding under the bed. My husband had to go out to ask them to stop. They did stop when asked, but it was still really, really annoying. I was quite angry when I was jolted awake by loud explosions outside my window.

One of my cats, who is otherwise well adjusted and happy, developed a fear and anxiety about fireworks and now thunderstorms after we were out of town on a 4th of July a few years ago. We don't know exactly what happened, but we are guessing our neighbors were setting off fireworks right next to the house or something. Now he panics every time he hears thunder and hides under the bed or in the back of the closet. I can only imagine how the birds and other wildlife in our area must feel about the personal fireworks going off in their vicinity.

I know people think personal fireworks are great fun, but they really are hard on the animals (and your neighbors' peace of mind).

A few years ago one late 4th July night I was inside and had by that point become dulled to the constant bangs/booms/crackity-cracks when I heard a sharp WHACK on my roof above the living room. Thinking it just a spent rocket I figured I'd just wait until daylight to see what it was. The next day I could see no obvious damage to the roof or side of the house....but no spent fireworks traces could be found.

I had over the next several months gotten water stains on the back wall of my living room after heavy rains. I could not find this elusive leak and called a roofer. After 2 or 3 minutes of clomping around up there he called down to me and told me to step back and look up at a shingle he had unfurled to reveal a good sized hole while saying "Do you know you have a bullet hole in your roof?". "Guess not" was my deadpan answer. We then clomped about the rafters of my attic and could see the splintered wood but never could find the slug. He said it looked just like what he sees in the sides of houses in some dodgy neighborhoods.

It was then we both surmised the hole was from a bullet traveling at a near straight down trajectory from a gun fired into the air. I then wondered what would have happened if the damned thing hit just a few feet shy of the house if I was out on the patio?

I've since become cantankerous to fireworks revelry. We get the same thing from the same yahoos on New Years Eve too.

not what i expected but there are a lot of animal people around here and many animals are very disturbed by the noise. (my neighbor's cats would puke from being so upset by the sounds. i had a dog who would constantly shiver with fright. i also had a dog who couldn't care less.)

the last explosion i heard was at 3:00 am on july 5. apparently from someone who has the need to have the last say.

Last year my new neighbors started setting stuff off just as I was bringing the filly in for the night.

Dahli nearly flattened me when she panicked and bolted out of the barn. My dogs both panicked and bolted too. I ran around like crazy trying to round everybody up before anybody got hurt or, in the case of the dogs, missing in the woods. We have hundreds of acres of near wilderness behind us and dogs have been known to go missing.

This year it was pouring on the night of the 4th -- I guess the remains of Arthur arrived pretty fast. So instead, last night just as I was trying to go to sleep, the neighbors on my other side started setting off explosions.

Annoying as fucking hell. I despise Gov 38% for a lot of reasons. This is pretty near the top of the list, beaten only by his doubling my property taxes.

I don't understand people's need to terrorize wildlife and pets, and destroy the peace and quiet of rural living, for "entertainment."

Some stupid fucking rednecks in this neighborhood decided that the 4th of July wasn't over until he had fired off all of his M80s. At once, apparently. Scared the cap out of me. I thought it was an explosion. Poor dog trembled on my lap.

So, no, I don't like the fact that idiots are not arrested for doing this, except the there's not enough room in the jails.

Not excusing this, and on the 4th my neighbors' dogs were terrified.

(Not to mention the amateur pyrotechnicians around the neighborhood in the days before and after...)

But humans, (males more than females) like blowing stuff up.

Like the SCTV 'blowed up good' guys or Graham Greene's Edgar K. B. Montrose bit on the Red Green show.
But really, m-80's on up aren't blowing anything up but themselves. Nothing much in the way of a visual, just making a loud 'boom.' THAT I don't get.

I used to blow up about $500 worth of pyrotechnics, but haven't recently.

Mortars and ariels were my favorites big ones, but I was also partial to saturn rockets.
