(10,418 posts)are the political and religious messages on the backs of tractor trailers. What I'm referring to are company sponsored messages and not some random stickers a tea bagger trucker put on there. When Bush was beating the drums of war and leading us into that disaster in Iraq, one large trucking company's owner in the Midwest had this on a large sign put on the back of all of his trailers:
"We support the troops whenever we go. No aid or comfort to the enemy! No way!"
I don't know how somebody intelligent enough to operate a large business ends up putting a stupid strawman in prime ad space for the company on the back of his trucks, but there you go.
I see a lot of Biblical scripture on the backs of trucks. I also spot anti-choice messages here and there. All company sponsored.
I suppose they figure only conservative Christians have freight to move in this country. Heaven knows how much their preaching is costing them in revenue.

(19,366 posts)This was around 1987, and the then wife and I were on a road trip down to Santa Barbara on US 101. As we were rolling along in that beautiful part of the state, I had the Allman Brothers At Fillmore East playing on cassette tape and it struck me as to how many Cadillacs might be out on the road at that moment listening to Rock&Roll. Probably not that many, but I bet there's a lot fifty to sixty somethings doing it now.

(30,947 posts)I passed everything except for the parallel parking. The examiner passed me because of the big fins obscuring my vision in the back.

(34,133 posts)The fins weren't as big, but it was just as long. Aced the parallel parking, though. The Caddy was good practice for "my" high school car - a 1958 four door Buick Special that my grandmother bought new and passed down through the family. Now, that sucker had fins!

(9,976 posts)Commercial Cadillac, with the jumpseats - not a conversion. 472 engine, would smoke the tires 'til you got bored! Took it to Oxford, Maine for a memorable Dead show. When we hit the show traffic, we swung the back doors open, and rolled along at walking speed. People got in, got out, walked along with us - a great day. Paying off the tab we ran for gas - not so great! Musta had a 40 gallon tank....
