so it's OK.

I cried when she once won a magazine poll for best drummer - she beat John Bonham.

12. I would venture she WAS a better drummer than four-on-the-floor Bonham

Bonham was the only drummer who could make EVERY time signature sound like 4/4. I guess that is some kind of talent.

I don't have to know how stuff works, only that it works. The triplets of Bonhamville turn me on.

Do you think he couldn't play odd times or did they just not write many songs that weren't 4/4?

her voice was just so simple and pure and she didn't have to dress crazy or have elaborate stage productions - now THAT is real talent

but top honors have to go to Annie Haslam of Renaissance. A vocal range of five octaves--just listen to "Ashes Are Burning" sends chills down my spine.

Are you familiar with the late Ivan Rebroff? "Only" four and a half octaves...

I push Renaissance every chance I get.

10. She’s in my top 5 greatest pop singers of the 20th century

I’d rank her up there along with the likes of Nat King Cole, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald. Her resonant vocal tone is like ear candy... Herb Alpert said he signed the Carpenters to A&M Records based on the sounf of her voice... She had perfect pitch, and always sang the song as written, never throwing in extra unwritten notes as is the style today. She just poured her emotion into the notes as written. Too many people know the Carpenters only by their lightweight pop singles, and I remember some derogatory comments even on this forum. But they produced a deep catalog of song recordings including a remarkable cover of the Beatles’ “Ticket to Ride.”

That's the only Carpenter's album I own(ed) . They also did a good version of Klatuu's "Calling Occupants (of Interplanetary Craft) " that is worth checking out. Yes, a voice for the ages silenced way too early.
