The death of Archie (Archie Comics)

In April, the creators of Archie Comics announced that they were killing off its main character, and today, they announced how Archie Andrews will die in Wednesday’s edition of Life with Archie: (mouse over or ctrl-a to reveal spoilers):

In an interview with TPM, Jon Goldwater, the CEO of Archie Comics, said that the death is “everything that you would expect of Archie. He dies heroically. He dies selflessly. He dies in the manner that epitomizes not only the best of Riverdale but the best of all of us. It’s what Archie has come to represent over the past almost 75 years.”

“We wanted to do something that was impactful that would really resonate with the world and bring home just how important Archie is to everyone,” said Goldwater. “That’s how we came up with the storyline of saving Kevin. He could have saved Betty. He could have saved Veronica. We get that, but metaphorically, by saving Kevin, a new Riverdale is born.”[/font]

Were they getting upset that Batman was making a killing as the tortured soul so they had to turn Riverdale into a typically modern shithole?

Next up the lawsuits seeking his assets to cover the unintended pregnancies of Betty and Veronica, and maybe Madge too.

Scene: The comic book store.

Zack: Wow, this place is awesome. Where do they keep the Archies?

Sheldon: In the bedrooms of ten-year-old girls, where they belong.

Zack: Oh, no, you’re thinking old-school Archie. It’s much more sophisticated now. Like, there’s two universes, and Archie’s married to Betty in one and Veronica in the other. Midge is even breaking up with Moose.

Raj (shocked): No.

Zack: About time, right?

She was the one I had a crush on...

And bravo to Archie Comics!

I grew up on the 'Christian' Archie comics. That Archie probably wouldn't have given his life to save a gay man.

It's been so long, I can't believe I blew the name.

No he wouldn't have. Also Veronica, Betty and Midge would have gone to visit relatives for several months instead of suing Archie's estate for paternity just as God intended.
