Ron Howard to helm documentary about Beatles' touring years

Ron Howard to helm documentary about Beatles' touring years

Ron Howard will direct and produce a documentary about the Beatles as a touring act, from their early days playing in Liverpool, England, and Hamburg, Germany, to their last concert in San Francisco in 1966.

The film is being produced by Apple Corps Ltd. (which represents the Beatles), White Horse Pictures and Howard's Imagine Entertainment, with the cooperation of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison.

"I am excited and honored to be working with Apple and the White Horse team on this astounding story of these four young men who stormed the world in 1964," Howard said in a statement. "Their impact on popular culture and the human experience cannot be exaggerated."

The filmmakers intend to release the documentary by the end of 2015.

I am sure it will be really hard-hitting and full of juicy revelations.

Not a fan of Ron Howard movies...the most you can say is that they're competent, for the most part, but very, very ordinary in the direction.

unoffensive 'feel good' movies. I assume this will be the same.

Since it's a documentary, I'm hoping it's just lots of unseen touring footage and not much Ron Howard. But I was a huge Beatle fan so I'll see it no matter what

...what about Pete Best?

He's still around, isn't he?

He was the pre-Ringo drummer, in the early live performance days, wasn't he?

I remember back in the 90s Pete was running ads in Music Connection magazine.

I think he was giving drum lessons.

Would spice up the documentary, and since it is supposed to cover Best's time with the group, it would be... interesting to air his perspective.

...it will be interesting to see how the Director Mr. Howard handles the Pete Best angle.

I've often thought about how shitty it must have been to be thrown out of the Beatles just as they were about to break really really big.
