I hate my 1 part time job with a passion. To the point that the thought of going in there makes me nauseous. They've fired a huge number of employees over the past year -- everybody around town is aware of it. Everybody on my team is on written warning (I was the last to be put on) for "quality" except one who is on for too many absenses (it makes her nauseous to come in too). A large number of employees -- including 4 from my team of 6 or 7 -- have quit in the past couple months, to take jobs that in 2 instances pay at least $3-4/hour less.
I was hoping to get fired, or leave of absence without pay. Instead, I've been told I'm on an "unauthorized absence" (I've called out sick for 6 days, but didn't go to a doctor because I'm just exhausted, not sick) and ordered to report on Friday.
I'm too scared to quit and just the thought of going in there makes me nauseous.
My other part time, hospital lab job is very high stress there right now. By closing the nearby hospital, we've in essence been turned into a ED. Every shift is getting overwhelmed -- the worst is when you're there by yourself.
And I'm just feeling so totally burned out...I just need to get through 1 more year and a couple months before I can collect SS.

I know where you're coming from.
You might see a doctor and see if you are suffering from exhaustion, and get a note for it.

(14,881 posts)I know a doctor who is very kind. He did my tests when I needed to check my immunity prior to clinical training. And the good news is that the reputation of this company is crap around here, so he'll probably be biased against them to boot.

Is there any way you could take SS early? It might be worth it.

(14,881 posts)but at least I could take the risk of dropping p/t job 1. If p/t job 2 as lab tech didn't provide enough to make it after the summer season when the snowbirds and tourists are here, then I could take SS next year when I turn 62.
I can make enough as lab assistant spring, summer and fall. It's December or so through February or March that there's not enough work. Plus now my car is costing an extra chunk to keep running as it's really getting up there. It looks good underneath and the engine still purrs, but it's got over 230K miles. Last year was $1000 for new fuel line and $250 for battery and then $250 for front axle. Year before was $1000+ for timing belt and $800 for winter and summer tires. It's already been making a new noise, I think either rear axle or shocks.
If I could sell my house for a decent price, I could retire asap.

(43,890 posts)This is a poem I once got from my mother. Yes, my mother. Bravest woman I ever met.
After her second bout with breast cancer.
PS: She is still alive, after burying two husbands and two sons.
Do not surrender even when defeated,
and do not be a slave even in bondage,
trembling with fear advance bravely,
and attack with fury, though badly wounded.
Be as stubborn as a rusting nail,
that refuses to yield though old and ruined,
and do not envy the peacock's plumage,
that drops in fear at the first noise.
Be as a god that never cries,
or as a devil that never prays,
or as the oak whose mighty canopy,
needs of water but does not beg it.
Even when it rolls to the dust,
let your head scowl and bite,
and scream for vengeance.

(14,881 posts)for Cust Svc Asst. It will be less $$, but a certain paycheck to supplement the MLT work. Any vibes sent my way will be appreciated!
Fingers crossed. I had applied for a CS job there years ago and didn't get it. different hiring manager this time around. I need to be in a healing place. I had wanted to take one of her programs years ago, but they're just out of my $$ range. Learning by osmosis is better anyway
They've staffed up quite a bit, so it looks like her business is really taking off. She's been around for several decades and is internationally known in the medicinal herb world.
Thank you all for your support...
