If it was done on just a fraction of parking lots across the US, we probably wouldn't need to allocate any land for solar farms.

At least.

As you may have heard, Wisconsin is not exactly located in a desert.

I do not care one bit what people think of having to see parking lots, just that getting out of them safely trumps their "problem" with how a parking lot looks.
Do that, and then add all the solar panels, wind-turbines, and whatever else you can to generate power, heat water, and so forth

(29,414 posts)They then become a driving hazard as I can't see approaching traffic. All because the owners of the lot want to "beautify" it. Either move them back (and lose that encircling row of parking space, which they'll never do) or put in trees. At least I can see under trees

(31,514 posts)around parking lots. Where I work, we put up a privacy fence along the side of the parking lot that faces the street. That wasn't good enough for the city so we put more fencing around the corner as they suggested. Then they came back and wanted us to plant bushes in front of the fence. The boss told them that they were welcome to do so, if they wished, but he was through. We had already landscaped all around the building (as required/suggested by the city) and the area around the sign we installed at the front of our property, so it's not like the place is an eyesore. It's really quite attractive.

(29,414 posts)Municipalities sometimes act like HOAs, too. You'd think lowering accident rates at parking lot entrances would be a greater priority than aesthetics, but some people just don't know how to think that way.

(135,425 posts)USA should be more inclined to install convex mirrors across from exits--that way one can see a vehicle coming all the way down the road by simply looking at the mirror in front of the exiting car. This is common in Europe and one never has any trouble, even in the smallest roads with the blindest of exits!
Made in USA, unbreakable too....

Much, much simpler to just keep the pretty bushes out of the way.

(38,958 posts)I have long thought that this and green roof technology should simply be required for public buildings, shopping centers, malls and alike. We are just wasting an available resource by not doing so.
Parking lots and parking garages are the most badly designed structures in general.

(5,670 posts)parking lot. Makes a huge difference getting into my car at the end of the day. Last week it was 106 several days. I'm seeing them showing up more and more, finally. I thing some grant money may be involved.

(45,427 posts)this could definitely be a good idea for many workplaces and shopping malls. Solar panels have been getting cheaper and better in recent years.
