I recently noted my intention to post excerpts
from The Texas Spectator, a "little journal" published in Austin from 1945 -1948. I recently came into possession (back in 1998) of some copies that my dad had saved. If you are wondering about the literary bent of this publication, think forerunner of the Texas Observer which began in 1954.
They take delight in making fun of the National Association of Manufacturers and its penchant for calling everything socialist.
Anyway, I will post some of their stuff here from time to time until somebody calls "calf rope!"

This little journal has about reached the point in its career that it should reaffirm some of the things that were quite clear to its first subscribers.
Some well-wishers are worried about the bias and the prejudice of our writing.
It was about the second issue that we said in a very candid statement:
1. We are biased.
2. We are prejudiced.
3. We do not intend to report or write objectively.
4. And all who were seeking the so-called reporting and writing would have to look for it elsewhere.
There has been no reason to change what we said in the first place.
After more than twenty years of observing what the Texas newspapers lo in giving both sides, we are convinced that it is high time for a little openly biased and prejudicial reporting of Texas affairs.
If this offends anyone, this little journal is not for you.
