Things we've learned from the movies

Here's a humorous breakdown graphic listing several fun things that movies have taught us over the years. These are things that we've see in movies over and over again. Of course, there's a few that are left off the list like how the streets are always wet at night. Look over the list, and then let us know if you have any other facts to add to it!

I have a cousin that does HVAC work. He's amazed at how the ducts are always clean and there aren't any screws or sharp edges anywhere.

8. Yep, the Fallacy of the Talking Killer (Ebert)

The villain wants to kill the hero. He has him cornered at gunpoint. All he has to do is pull the trigger. But he always talks first. He explains the hero's mistakes to him. Jeers. Laughs. And gives the hero time to think his way out of the situation, or be rescued by his buddy. Cf. most JAMES BOND movies.

I guess it serves two purposes. A chance for the hero to escape so that the film series (007, Bourne, etc.) can continue and provide some exposition for the viewers, assuming they care.

9. Either movie characters clean their toilets everyday or they just don't care about microbes

If you watch a character throwing up, you see them hugging the toilet and leaning their face on the bowl, I keep my bathroom real clean but I wouldn't lay my face on the bowl.

Also, movie character's puke doesn't taste horrible or stink. They just throw up, wipe their mouth and go back to business; who really does that?

Every time someone refuses a ride, the walk home will be along dark deserted streets or through an old cemetery or across fog-shrouded Moors.

Think about it. It's about the same impact as being hit by a train.

don't pay much live in spacious digs and have closets full of expensive clothes. And all children in movies are precocious, wisecracking smart alecks.

And it is going to be a spectacular explosion too.
