All of which make money on ads.

Yes, Hulu has ads.

None of the Criterion films, including the recently added A Hard Days Night (watched it today) have ads.

I think Hulu is one of the best bargains for cable cutters. I get The Daily Show, Colbert, A lot of classic Dr. Who, and 800 Criterion Collection movies for 7.99 a month. They are the single best service for current TV shows, depending on what you are looking for and they have a ton of anime series.

... and they both stream better on Hulu than on their own fan sites, go figger.

At least you can mute the ads.

... there are ads. But I would be quick to say they are nothing like the ads on commercial TV.

1) pro -they are very short, an ad break is often just 30 seconds and rarely longer than a minute
2) con - the same ads play over and over and over and over and over and over

My only other comment about Hulu is that (at least the Roku version) the software is completely goofy, designed by folks without a single clue about user interface. Amazon Prime, Netflix, almost anybody is way better in this regard.
