Nobody is more aware of my hypocrisy than I am: I subscribe to all-creatures-and-rocks-being-equal, but something able to crawl on and bite me goes BOOM!1 Where there's ONE (two), there's MORE!1 Did you know that ticks, like what I guard my dogs from, are related to spiders?!1

(16,327 posts)and was in my sister's living room when I casually noticed a spider crawling up the leg of coffee table my feet were under. When that spider JUMPED onto my leg I freaked out completely. What the FUCK did that spider just do??? Where I grew up and live we don't have them and I never even knew they existed. That was also the trip I walked into her backyard barefoot and stepped into a fire ant colony. I don't like Texas.

(70,649 posts)Put a leg through and felt something fuzzy inside and yanked them off, to find a TARANTULA in there. I must say that the ones I've seen have been fairly torpid and that I've seen some people handling them, fascinated in watching them barely crawl up their arm.

(55,004 posts)is it pretty good sized? hard to tell the scale, but this is the time of year the males wander around looking for females in their burrows. they CAN bite but if you move slow and handle them gently they won't.
