You screw little "posts onto the toilet and the seat hinges have a spring clamp system that slides onto and "grabs" the posts.

The video on the Home Depot page for the seat shows how they work:

I took the posts off the seat, installed them, then slide the seat on - it was much easier than having the seat in the way. My husband bought the quiet close seat - he's left the seat up too often and I'd gotten so I'd slam it closed. Now I can't do that!

and the bolts are all plastic. And you can cut the washer part of the bolt down with scissors. Freaky. I also the the plastic has more give so it will last longer. Yhe last seat snapped and broke.

(nylon, really I think) because too many people over tightened the metal ones and broke the toilet. That ceramic is surprisingly easy to break.

They do work loose, TBS. I never tried the LocTite angle, because I didn't think it would work on plastic. I'll have to remember that.

Was very proud to have changed out the tank myself afterward. Made sure not to overtighten again. I posted a couple questions on a plumbing help site and they said it's basically impossible to have cracked it due to overtightening. But what else could it have been? The crack started at the hole for the handle.

I'm not that sure I tightened the tank to the base enough but it's staying up with no leaks so I think it's fine. It will wobble if I push it though.
