(82,849 posts)You should have seen what you posted earlier, along with some excuse about using a Blackberry. It's pretty clear you were higher than a kite, so rehab seems in order. Best of luck!

(54,256 posts)The exercises can be painful.
Grit your teeth and do them.
The more you do, the faster you get better.
And the faster you get full mobility back.
A really wimpy acquaintance had a shoulder replacement.
She complained that the exercises were 'too hard and hurt too much'.
She's a real dork.
Almost a year later she can't raise her arm above shoulder height.
Her doc says that the best she's gonna get because she didn't do the exercises.
They'll probably tell you to walk.
If so, ask about Nordic Walking.
Look it up.
I do it every day.
Best of luck.

(2,682 posts)was to walk as slowly as I needed to in order to not limp. Gaining strength is first, speed later. Now, 20 years later, although I still have a severed ACL in one knee and torn cartilage in the other I don't walk with a limp and I get around pretty well for an old broad. I'm sure you will do even better than that!!!

(354 posts)California Peggy- I have been keeping up with you from the sidelines and am so glad things are working out. You are such a genuinely kind and compassionate person that it is easy to be that way with you. My thoughts & prayers have been and are with you. Take good care of yourself- you will be good as new before we know it!!!

(34,135 posts)Glad you're doing good enough to get kicked up to rehab.
Do me a favor - take notes to see what you actually need while in rehab. I mean basic stuff, like nightgowns, soap, shampoo, the essentials. I have no clue what to take and my husband, as sweet as he is, is no good at bringing stuff.
After my hysterectomy, he never remembered to bring my toothbrush to the hospital, no soap, no deodorant. It was kind of grim by the third day.
I'm still waiting to hear from the knee replacement surgeon...
Kali
(55,007 posts)I know you were thinking about it - good luck! I'm a little jealous of both of you! My knees are crap.

(34,135 posts)It's gotten so bad that standing up long enough to make dinner is impossible.
Friday the vet was here. All I did was walk halfway down the barn aisle, halter a horse and start leading her back to the front. Couldn't do it. The vet tech had to take her from me and put her out. I think the stuff I did the day the colt was born really did a lot more damage to the joints - they've hurt a whole lot worse since then.
I saw the surgeon who did the arthroscopic surgeries on both knees a week ago. He's referred me to the knee replacement surgeon and I'm waiting to hear back from him. My old surgeon said, "Well, it isn't a slam dunk yet." but when he sent the info to the knee replacement guy it was with a recommendation for both knees. Even I could see that both knees are bone on bone - without my glasses!

There were all sorts of tips the PT and OT (Occupational) folks gave me -- some of them
needed IMMEDIATELY (talk to someone about bathroom safety in particular, PLEASE!!!!)

I DO like the fact that you'll be at home-sweet-home (you can just imagine how MUCH
I appreciate that factor).

Will wait for details -- until then I'm sending stability vibes. You FOCUS when on the

CaliforniaPeggy
(149,571 posts)OK, here's the scoop. The PT people (both the ones in the hospital and the ones in the Transitional Care Unit) all agree that I am doing much too well for PT in the TCU.
Medicare also agrees; they wouldn't pay for it.
So our options narrowed down to one: going home, and that's what we did. I am now at my desktop computer (YAY) typing away much more easily!
I *AM* eligible for at home PT, and that I will get, starting probably in a couple of days. I will take full advantage of it.
MY GOD IT'S GOOD TO BE HOME!
I feel better already.
nolabear
(41,959 posts)don't shirk the PT. As my father in law the surgeon says, work hard now even if it's tempting to believe you can't, because you'll heal much faster.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,571 posts)I will not shirk it. I have major reasons for getting on with this PT. The knee brace is a biggie.
