So I posted this on the FB, and I got a rather bizarre response...

So I posted this on Facebook earlier today...

So long story, but yesterday was National Rum Day. I declared this to one of my favorite regular customers and while he said he did not like rum, he was curious about what other national holidays there were. Since I had my laptop handy dandy, we started looking at what other days had national holidays. In case anyone is curious, Krys' birthday is also National Weatherman's Day and mine is National Salami Day (I think I win). But I digress.

We found out that today is National Thrift Shop Day. So Krys and I decided to go to a few close to us while we were out and about running errands. The two we went to were both having sales and there were huge lines. And we saw people from all walks of life, waiting to buy school clothes for kids, business clothes for adults, baby products... you name it, they were buying what they could with what little money they had because the thrift store was having a sale. How sad that this is what people are reduced to when they are just trying to live. And trust me, I am no stranger to the thrift store. I have bought plenty of things in my life just to get by. As many of you probably have as well.

I guess my point is, yes, it is National Thrift Store Day, but I would also like to look at it as National Poverty Awareness Day. There are people struggling everywhere. If you have the means, donate your clothes, furniture, anything that can be donated because there are people in need. And if you are in need, know that there are great places like the DAV and City Missions that can help.

And I had someone respond (and I KNOW she is Republican because her husband does ads for Roy Blunt),
"Haha, you crack me up."

I guess at the start my post was a bit humorous, but the end certainly was not. I don't get the part where people think it is funny that people have to shop at thrift stores to keep their families with clothes or furniture. Am I that funny? Or are people just that heartless? I would like to think I am hilarious, but I am really not

1. Another alternative: she only read the first paragraph.

That happens a lot of Facebook: read the headline, then like/comment without reading further.

If they have to click a link, or click on "see more." half of people won't bother
