SO, OK, listen...

So, OK, listen: I found this album in college right after it came out, and this particular song became a staple among my friends and I once the party reached that head-nodding mellow stage. One night, around 4am, we played this song at the highest possible volume achievable by the V-8 Rocket stereo system my roommates and I shared. It shook the bones of the Earth, and the next morning, the two girls who were our downstairs neighbors came up and knocked on our door. When I opened it, they stood before me looking as if they had stared into the very face of Satan himself. "Please," they said, "Don't ever do that again."

This is pretty much the most powerful piece of music I own, the backbone of the Blues, the history of the country, the musical legacy of slavery, blood-soaked, roaring, pristine, dangerous, thunderous. DO NOT listen to it without headphones and the volume turned to 11, or without some elbow room to crank it from worthy speakers.

Hint: It's chain gang music...

...and yes, that is Charles S. Dutton. Enjoy.
