Sometimes I just want to drink myself insensible.

The Japanese believe that getting stinking drunk now and again, instead of being a character flaw, releases evil spirits and cleanses the soul, restoring wa, or harmony.

Mrs. Aristus strongly disapproves of alcohol. So my only chances to get plowed are when she's out of town. It's been a couple of years since that happened. Circumstances at home and in the news right now make me yearn for a chance to get completely lubricated. Don't worry; when it happens, I don't drive anywhere; I just stay home and either post a few drinking threads in the Lounge, or watch my favorite 'drunk-off-my-ass' movies, Blade Runner and Dark City.

I envy people who do a little weed on a regular basis. I love that giddy, lightheaded euphoria that accompanies mind-altering substances.

Anyway, thank you for joining me for this catharsis.

(BTW, I'm sober as a judge right now. Just looking forward to my next drinking night...)

There's a reason we have mind-altering drugs.

It feels good to be blotto now and then.

Even I indulge in something...I'm careful and plan it according to what's going on in my world, but yes...and I enjoy the hell out of it.

i smoke a bowl or two a night and prefer a night of that to a night of beer, but sometimes i like to drink more than is reasonable. sometimes i make badly-drawn pictures for one of my besties, sometimes i put on the dark crystal, sometimes i have drunk-ass solo dance parties. i never drive on the very rare occasion i do it in public.

i hope you get to knock back a few in the reasonably near future.

I know what I'm going to watch the first opportunity I get to try some legal pot! Probably in candy form. (I heard it comes in candy now) I'm not going to smoke it.

I've read medical studies that report that the bioavailability of THC from smoking is around 27%, but only 9% or so from edibles. But every one of my patients who use say they get a better high from edibles. So what do I know?

Anyway, I can't wait!...

edibles are hit and miss for me, although i can sometimes get good hard candies from a buddy. one of the things to keep in mind about them that they take a bit to kick in, so don't just eat more because you don't feel anything after ten minutes.

Although marijuana is legal and over-the-counter in Washington State now, nothing has been said about employment drug testing for pot, or anything else, for that matter.

In four years of practice as a PA, I've never had to submit to a urine toxicology screening. But why take a chance? Alcohol (still one of the deadliest drug in existence, BTW, statistically speaking) won't get you fired if it turns up in your pee. So I stick with that.

In my earlier days as an RT, I used to tout the bronchodilating effects of smoking (duh… smoke?) But, let's just say that I hesitate to do anything until the day it's legal (again!) I am responsible in my career… very responsible, but alcohol is NOT my preferred drug. I'd rather do a bowl, listen to some excellent music, or head trip subject in the comfort of my home.

I truly feel that it is FAR more easy for TPTB to control the hustings when they devote themselves to alcohol. I've understood myself and my demons far more when elevating into the thought patterns of the great smoke spirit.

Carlos Castenada forever. We learn ... we unwind … we understand the nothingness that all is made right when we peer into the cracks between the world.

P.S. No… I'm just gardening today and enjoying a sober evening… right before Dr. Who

Thank you for that thought.

I've only done pot twice in my life, and I don't remember being hung over afterward either time. I really think I'd like 'weed-nights' (or whatever) more than drinking nights. But until employers put 'yeah, do whatever you want on your own time' in writing, I'm sticking with ETOH. They say liquor brings out who you really are (fortunately, I'm an affectionate drunk, not a mean drunk...), but I wonder if marijuana makes everyone mellow and relaxed? It would be nice, wouldn't it? Nobody would want to fight wars anymore. Hell, no one would want to have wars anymore...

It's the writing of the character that decides who might be right for the viewer, and I think the writing has been great for about 7 or 8 years now.

I'm particularly happy with THIS one! I hope he stays for a while…

BTW, I've never seen anyone be anything but goofy, hungry or amusing/amused on pot. I sure did my share. I also saw the most creative ideas continue to blossom in a culture of folks in the 70s who were all smoking it at that time in my life. I think to smoke it every day is unusual, but I also think that there are some people out there who may do this to deal with lots of issues they cannot embrace in a state of ordinary reality.

He had a supporting role in one of my favorite films, Local Hero back in 1983. A very appealing character.

Now Local Hero is a film I can watch over and over with no chemical enhancement. It makes me feel good just all by itself.

I remember the very first time I smoked pot. It was at a party with some friends of my girlfriend at the time. It was a very ceremonious occasion. We used a huge, ornate hookah for smoking. I don't know how much she had had before the rest of us got started, but my girlfriend's best friend burst into tears of joy when it was announced that I was trying pot for the very first time. Oh well. Some people always cry at weddings, too, I guess...

We settled down after a few hits to watch Pink Floyd's The Wall, which seemed appropriate, I guess. But instead of getting a spectacular high, I fell asleep.

Hmm...

I've been hanging with the wrong crowd for the last 20 years...

Peter Capaldi's character in Local Hero is excessively multilingual. There are no spoilers in the following exchange, which is one of my favorites from the film. Peter Capaldi's character, Danny Olsen, is driving in a fog-bound region of the Scottish Highlands with the main character, an American oil executive.

Mac: "Where are we?"

Danny: (thick Scottish accent) "The lawst fyew roadsigns were in Gaelic. It's no' one o' me languages."

Mac: "You speak languages?"

Danny: "French, Italian and Spanish..."

Mac: "Oh."

Danny: "German...Swedish...Turkish...Russian...Norwegian...Japanese...Danish...Hebrew...Arabic, and Polish. I have a facility w'languages..."

You're going to love it...

Men in state legislatures are not a subset of that group. Perhaps you the men to whom you refer might want that (good for you!). Most of the people who could pass a progressive law like that are shameless, shallow misogynist sell-outs to the alcohol, tobacco and gun industry. In THIS commonwealth, their pimping is only outdone by answering to the gas and oil industry. Most of what makes it up to the state assembly are now outright members of ALEC. No orgasms interest them but the smell of their next election, not erection.

Really… I'm not being a negative nancy… I've simply wised up as to who's out there "representing" women. The lack of progressive change-agents in the General Assembly on this and other subjects like sustainable energy industrial boom, infrastructure are dwarfed by those being open to marijuana and what empowers a women's libido.

Fuckers…

OTOH, I believe the creativity of the electronic game world is due for a change. I can't believe how charged up it is with all these "kill-kill" games people play on PlayStation or whatever. I really think people are showing how they are burning out with this kind of mind-set. Unfortunately, we are seeing bang-bang play out like video games would wish us to play out in our little world. To change the tune of the fantasy world would be due to a change by other things.

We are not being guided by the same paternalistic pattern that's governed us over the last few millennia. We really are getting away from that, IMO. It's the dawning of the age of Aquarius… I'm sticking by this credo.

I've had one beer from the earlier start of this conversation, and I must say… I'm ready to go to dream land! Thanks for the great gum-bumping, Aristus.

My wife took the day off work and took the little one to her friend's house to play for the day. I was pumped up. I took a long shower, with no one yelling at me to finish. After all, night-time is the best time for watching Blade Runner or Dark City. Or Rollerball, Apocalypse Now, Batman Begins, Excalibur, or any other of my favorite 'get-drunk' movies. When I've had enough, and it's late enough (or early enough, 3-4am usually), I'll knock off, have a couple of pitchers of water to head off the potential hangover, and crash into bed.
