Sarah SILVERMAN *killed* on SNL!1

After last week's (for me: ) DEBACLE with that PRATT dude hosting, full of lameness and inside-kewl-kids's-snickering and being too kewl to read lines without fumbling words, I had low expectations for the entire rest of this season.

And I've tried for years with SILVERMAN. It's entirely possible that I'm so out of things that I don't get her -- or for that matter, Jimmy FALLON, or (can add lots here). It's always been like she's so low key that the funny just lies there. Sleepy persona.

But last night she had ENERGY, and assuming that things were tailored to her/host, the skits were short and with BITE, and paced. There was at least one place that I actually/literally laughed out loud. And at least once (the Joan RIVERS in Heaven bit) that I actually/literally GASPED when it started. Were those clips of her/SILVERMAN during the monolog of being a fake audience member?

For years I've waited to the end of Weekend Update and clicked OFF either to sleep or whatever else is on, and this is the first time in years that this whole thing ran FAST all the way to the end.

The bit with Tracy Morgan as Al Sharpton cracked me up.

I have never watched Sarah Silverman perform before. She was terrific. Yes, I believe those were clips of her past spots as a member of the audience.

I can't claim to have watched LOTS for years, but I followed several episodes of some cable weekly show she did, not a sitcom, more like a takeoff on reality shows, with her, Jeffrey TAMBOR, her sister I think, and other ensemble. Plus several of her talk show guestings, and she has not presented like last night EVER!1 She's always been (for me) lackadaisical, sleepy-acting, like it's everybody else's job to exert ourselves to grant her the little laugh.

Last night she was STRUTTING. When she opened by claiming to be "an IMPORTANT comedian," I was going, like, really?!1 She did a minor equivalent of Miley stealing the Blurred Lines show.

NOTE: Kenan THOMPSON, who I think has been underated for years until the last couple, not Tracy MORGAN.

AComics do banter with the audience at times at their expense, but they usually don't have them perform as part of the bit. The woman audience member looked very uncomfortable at times as she was put upon to continue a comic routine with Sarah. And I disliked the Ebola skit on many levels.

Since SILVERMAN was acting way away from I expected and I was cringing for the audience member and thinking it would be cruel to put her through this for what I thought would end in a FLOP of a joke, I became fascinated: Would she go farther? Was she actually putting all her weight on the girl? And the girl had flashes of desperate help-me looks but actually responded with great, controlled acuity.

I think the ebola skit was within the cringeworthy parameters of the other two -- this audience one and the Joan RIVERS.
