(39,961 posts)No, it hoots.
Seriously, it's hilarious. It's close by and lets out with a huge set of hoots. Not wanting to be outdone, I made the same approximate noise. It hooted right back.
Okay, maybe I'm dumb, but it was fun.

(25,771 posts)We used to have a couple of owls that would sit in a majestic live oak in the back yard. Just before dark they came down out of the barn and would make a wide swooping arc with their huge wingspan over the meadow behind us.
When the cat wanted to go out at night I would say, "They're looking for you."

(53,339 posts)Raccoons can be very vocal. Investigating a racket out back one night, I discovered the source was a very loud pair of raccoons. I was also mortified to be the cause of raccoonus interruptus...
