An epidemic of 'fanic depression' is sweeping Michigan

The name is Flory, and my problem is an overwhelming feeling of crushing despair. It has lasted for days. I wake up listless and go through my day with bursts of gloom and anger. Wait a minute, I feel a conniption coming on.

In the name of heaven, Perez? That's who pinch hits when the season is on the line? A guy with one hit all year! And why can't anyone kick a freaking field goal! Jackson High probably has more reliable kickers!

"Nurse, come quick! It's another case of fanic depression! Bring restraints, stat!"

Fanic depression? I never heard of that, doctor. Is it bad?

"It's an epidemic sweeping Michigan. Thousands of fans who cheer Detroit sports teams, the poor souls, were afflicted after Sunday's unfortunate events."

No kidding, doc, Sunday was awful. Hold on, I'm losing control again.

How can the top-rated defense let Kyle "Signed off the Sofa" Orton shoot down the field with 21 seconds left in the game!

"That's right, Mr. – Flores, was it? – let it out. No one will judge you here."

What's making me act so screwy, doctor?

"According to the medical literature, never before have forces of fanic depression converged so powerfully in Michigan on a single day. It was simply too much for Detroit sports fans to bear. Their ill-advised hopes were shattered, and their confidence was revealed as delusion."

Hold on, doctor. Detroit sports fans aren't exactly fragile. We've had a lot of practice cheering for teams that lose.

"Ah, yes, but you thought this year was different, didn't you? You expected your Tigers to be great, not just good. And didn't you abandon rational thought to imagine your Lions were finally tough enough to beat anyone?"

the depression part happened when the Dodgers took the NL West.

I much prefer the fanic phase.

Hang in there, it gets better, eventually.

Then I remembered 3-2 and I don't feel so bad.
