Sort of "benched". I've been there, you have a contract but are not given any juicy assignments.

Not fired, but reassigned and done with deliberate timing to embarrass her.

NBC finally gave its former, teary-eyed “Today” host Ann Curry something to do — go to Iran.

Curry’s been largely riding the pine at the network after being tossed off “Today” and named NBC News national and international correspondent and anchor-at-large.

She was scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the Hance Family Foundation’s Beautiful Me Gala in Garden City, LI, on Thursday, but had to cancel when she got the call from NBC to interview Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran.

Local NBC star Cat Greenleaf was available to fill in and speak in front of 300 guests at the Cradle of Aviation Museum.

“Ann flew out Monday and Cat stepped in on Tuesday,” a spy said.

7. I don't know, but...

she's an actual journalist, something NBC News seems to despise.

It's much like the MtP issue...Russert, for all his flaws, was an actual investigative journalist at one point (unlike Gregory or Todd) and could be counted on to occasionally upset the apple cart by going after a guest or asking the tough question and refusing to back down until he got his answer. Neither of the two men to have replaced him are those kinds of journos that will go out to get the answer to the tough question America wants...and that's why Meet the Press has become "Press the Meat". It's not coincidental that the two weeks of MtP in the last year that people say were the best...were the two hosted by Chris Jansing.

Jansing, like Curry and even Russert, and unlike Gregory or Todd, is an investigative journalist that is going to ask tough questions and get answers--not allow her guests to come on and consistently grandstand in a friendly segment or interview.

If I were a competing network looking to steal the Sunday Political Show thunder, that's what I'd be doing...trying poach someone like Curry that comes across friendly but is going to investigate and push guests--because it would be compelling, it would quickly take the time-slot and segment lead over Meet the Press and CBS's Face the Nation
