I'll do my (maybe a millennial-- I'm borderline X/millennial (1980) but identify more with the latter) take on things

Movies-- I can sit through a movie but I would much rather multitask. That way I can be semi-productive while i'm vegging out. I maybe see two movies in the theater a year. THe reason is twofold. First of all it shuts me out for two hours and I'm debating whether or not it is worth it. Second of all, movies are not cheap, and for me to spend $10+ on a movie, Hollywood has to come out with movies that are worth that cash. Otherwise I will wait for the movie to come to Netflix. Big vs small screen does not bother me one bit. There are many in my generation who watch movies from a phone (I use my Kindle Fire).

Music--- We're a product of the corporatization of music. We grew up when Clear Channel dominated the airwaves and took local control away from mainstream radio stations. I can tune into the radio in my car and there's about a dozen or so songs that dominate the airwaves. We watched as once good radio stations were bought out by Clear Channel and their programming went corporate.

Concerts/lighters--- In my late teens/early 20s I went to a lot of concerts. This varied by venue, but a lot of them had pretty strict security that you had to go through and I have seen piles of lighters that were taken away by security. i can also see a fire hazard with that kind of a crowd and everyone with a flame. Plus smoking is down big time and people are less likely to carry a lighter. I do think it's stupid to film a concert with your phone. The quality will be lame.

Phone addiction--- I have noticed this more (informal observations among my circle) from people with iPhones than with Androids. I can't go out to dinner with an iPhone user without them checking their phone constantly. This app, that app, etc. Drives me nuts. HOwever we are in a world where people are expected to be connected 24/7 (which previous generations were not). BUt there's a difference between responding to a call from your boss and playing Candy Crush. Some people do phone roulette where the first person to pick up their phone pays the bill. Do I have mindless apps on my (android)? Yes (hello Plants vs Zombies) but I know they have a time and place. I'm certainly not going to fault someone for playing a phone game while in the doctor's waiting room or on a train.

Young Adult fiction--- LOVE IT. Very guilty of it. They're easy reading that you can't put down and you can get through fast. TO be fair it's not the only genre I read, but when I need a mindless read it's perfect. I'm reading a YA series (The Testing) right now. I alternate between that and political books usually.

Have you ever seen a concert shot by a concert goer on their phone that wasn't horrible?

Most of you are tech savvy and don't react to being called a nerd. Y'all just don't give a shit.

I'm digging a lot of the music being put out by this generation. Everything from post rock/stoner rock/melodic death metal to club acts like Skillex and Aly & Fila. Lots of tasty new music.

Lots of you guys play a LOT of guitar which is all good with me.

You guys have made a serious impact on the tattoo scene. Lots of exciting & creative energy have flooded the scene and the complexity & quality has increased tenfold.

As far as the marijuana, gay rights, immigration issues and the healthy skepticism regarding religion makes me feel like we are all gonna be alright.

IMO this author is nostalgic. Take music for instance. The songs from decades ago that sucked even though they were popular have mostly faded from memory. Sure, if you pick a station that plays music from the 60s and 70s it may seem better than top 40 stuff today, but IMO if you took a given week's top 40 from back then it would have lots of duds.

And that's what nostalgia is, the fond memories continue to shine while the others get duller. Was it really so great when people had to endure awkward, unwanted proximity to others by exchanging formalities that both parties know are insincere?

No, when you are stuck on the tram next to some creepy guy it is way better to be able to pull out the phone and read DU!

Now I get that recording a live show is lame, but what was so great about holding up cigarette lighters? Guess you had to be there lol...

it was our way of saying: you were/are great, we love you, we love this song, you touched our hearts & spirits

on edit: yes, you had to be there--those moments were amazingly powerful and moving. it also was a display of solidarity; strength in numbers.
