The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsHow are we related? My mother had a double first cousin. That
situation hardly ever occurs in the last few generations. People are double first cousins when a set of two sisters marry two brothers. Their kids are double first cousins.
So...how would I be related to the kids of Mama's double first cousin? Just regular cousins? Or
first cousins?

(4,995 posts)just be second cousins. Since you are only related to them through your mom, I don't think the double still applies. I think that is also true of the double first cousins - I think you are a first cousin once removed from them (rather than a double first cousin once removed). But I'm not a genealogy expert so I'm just guessing. The double cousin comes because you mom is cousins with them through her mother and her father but you are only related to them through your mother.
