McDonald's Japan "Taste of Halloween" black cheeseburger

The buns are made with black sesame seeds, the lower bun's smeared with black squid ink sauce, there are two patties topped with cheddar cheese, deep-fried onion shreds and an orange chipotle sauce that doesn't belong there and tastes weird. Also on offer is a "ghost burger" of fried chicken with camembert sauce on a white bun, but my husband brought home the black cheeseburger.

Double, double, two beef patties
Corpse of cow, gristly and fatty
Black ink sauce from salt-sea squid
Darkened buns of sesame seed
Onion bits like crisp brown leaves
Falling from the autumn trees
Golden cheddar harvest moon
Chipotle sauce, out of tune
Double, double, cheeseburger black
Halloween taste, Donald's of Mc

Ironically, that moldy looking bun tastes much better than the usual grossness of breadlike McDonald's substances.

... because that one looks a bit too fecal. Otherwise, it doesn't look or sound very much different from their usual items.

To me, it looks like the baker went out for a smoke break after putting the buns in the oven and had a big cigar instead of a Marlboro.

The bun is very black and it has BLACK CHEESE! Unfortunately, there are no Burger Kings in my city so I can't make fun of it. I have only seen one side in the Black Burger War.

Black bun, black cheese, just as you said. That plus a "free" 16oz Coke cost 690 yen ($6.40), about the same as a decent teishoku meal. While it was pretty tasty, to me it is an expensive gimmick.

I'll post some pictures after I've uploaded them to my computer.

Yes, it's ridiculously expensive. McDonald's always has coupons in newspaper flyers and I buy only the one item so it's only a few hundred yen.

There are actually two types of black burgers-- "Kuro Diamond", and "Kuro Pearl". This burger is a Kuro Diamond.

His "funeral repast" of all black food: "Out of black-edged plates they had drunk turtle soup and eaten Russian rye bread, ripe Turkish olives, caviar, smoked Frankfort black pudding, game with sauces that were the color of licorice and blacking, truffle gravy, chocolate cream, puddings, nectarines, grape preserves, mulberries and black-heart cherries; they had sipped, out of dark glasses, wines ... and after the coffee and walnut brandy had partaken of kivas and porter and stouts." And Halloween burgers.

products that are so popular in Japan, but it's fun, and now I'm one of those people who takes pictures of food and keeps track of fast food industry trends. Most of time I purchase these things just to take its picture. I won't eat regular menu McDonalds because even the fries give me an instant stomach earthquake, but when they have things like its American Burger series, the quality and taste is much higher (except the McRib -- that monstrosity was unforgivable).
