Cell phone help needed.

I have my own cell phone (Verizon) and would like to get my wife one. Would we be better off with 2 different phone #'s? Better off meaning cheaper. Went to their website and it is indecipherable to me.

She would have her own number, but rates would be cheaper.

A friend of mine is on the family plan with her stepsons. I believe the extra phone, with her own number, is only $10 a month. Calls to family members are free.
