Religious fundamentalists serve a vital function in my life.
Every morning when I wake up, I test myself. Do I believe in creationism? Do I believe that gays are damned to hell? Do I have an urge to do something mean to a random Muslim?
When I answer all the questions in the negative, I take it as a good sign that I haven't gone completely off the deep end, get out of bed, and proceed with my day as normal.
