(102,225 posts)LOL
Snow, zero degree actual temps and double digit subzero wind chills, but boy did we have a great and long Indian Summer this year.
SO, we're due, I guess. BUt did it have to do so so drastically? (was in the 60's Monday morning)
Texasgal
(17,043 posts)LOL! We are just not used to being this cold this soon!

(17,043 posts)Crazy!!!
I'm getting reports that it might sleet next week! HOLY MOLY! We are so not ready for that!
I hope you are keeping warm!

(102,225 posts)SO, we mainly have the first two, so it is bearable. First few drives in snow and ice are always a little bare-knuckled though, with everyone seemingly trying to remember how to do it!
OH, and sleet/freezing rain is a whole different animal. Hate it!
Texasgal
(17,043 posts)will close this city down. No school, no work except for the very brave. Texans do not know how to drive in that type of weather!
The wind is very strong, makes it feel colder! We just lit a fire in the fireplace, got out the fuzzy blankets! My poor dogs are so confused!!

(2,012 posts)breaking a 130 yr record. Not a fun way to be on all the national news. I think it's a conspiracy to tell Boulder we can't possibly manage municipalization and will need more fracking. Can't wait to hear Inhofe and all his" thousands of scientists" tell the Environmental Committee which he will now chair that they knew global warming and climate change were hoaxes all the time.

(12,153 posts)in western Nebraska! Plus we got snow. BRRRR.

(3,065 posts)getting down to a chilly 65 tonight.
I may have to wear long pants to work tomorrow.
I actually am not minding some cold weather but it just seem weird that it is happening so early! We usually stay 60's to 70's through Thanksgiving!
Go get a tan!

(205,176 posts)Couldn't wait for the heat to come on in my car. It's 37 here in New York. The Weather Channel says "feels like 33." It's too early for this, but I'm never ready.

(20,234 posts)It was in the mid 30's here, but I still biked to work today.
and I'm excited - I ordered a face mask for biking and it arrived this afternoon. It's supposed to be below freezing when I leave tomorrow and it's almost 12 miles one way, so I'm gonna be psyched to have it. Today I had an infinity scarf thing I could pull above my nose, but I had to ride with my shoulders hunched up a bit to keep it in place.

(8,976 posts)...but today topped out just over 60 degrees.

(70,077 posts)it is a little colder, but not raining and damp.
low 30's and rainy is the WORST, imho.

(30,947 posts)tomorrow night here in North Georgia. Hope my pipes do not freeze and break like they did last year. We had a brutal winter last year and I had four pipes break. I live in a mobile home and it is hard to keep the cold out, but I have a heater now under the house and will be turning it on tomorrow. I love cold weather, but not when it causes my water pipes to freeze up and break.

(55,007 posts)the damn house is colder than outside right now
but I am 1000 feet lower and in Phx at the moment, sitting barefoot and in shorts...aaaahhhh
I think it must still be in the 70s here tonight. it was unpleasantly warm this afternoon.

(153,147 posts)I've lived in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota but I have to say, there's something different about the Texas cold - maybe it's the sheer contrast - wasn't it 90 degrees, like, two weeks ago???

(25,245 posts)Cold wind blows through the seams. It's kind of a novelty, so I put up with it.
It's 20 degrees colder than average right now.

(34,136 posts)And of course, on the first cold day of the year the two year old gelding had to colic. Nothing serious, just enough to call out the vet and to keep everybody up all night checking on him. It was so NOT fun going out every hour all night with the cold weather and stiff winds that sucked all the heat out of the body. The gelding is doing OK now - good thing because he's going off to the trainer in two weeks to be started under saddle.

(25,245 posts)The high was 52 today, but it's windy and my house has very little insulation. The wind comes through where my picture window meets the walls. (I would get it fixed, but the few days that this happens makes it a novelty) It's going to get down into the low 30s tonight. I'm in San Antonio.

(32,016 posts)thanks to...OK this the Lounge you fill in the blanks.
But really. Only reached the 40s in Dallas and San Antonio today? When i read the wundermap today it was really crazy to see the cold weather at this time of year in the southeast! And not even 10 degrees in some parts of the heartland?

(25,461 posts)and use all three blankets, two down comforters and one quilt on the bed. Luckily I bought a small but strong electric space heater last week. The other heaters are fueled by kerosene and we haven't gone to the gas station to buy any kerosene yet. My apartment is unheated and uninsulated, a strong draft whistles through the sliding glass doors. One room at a time is heated by space heaters, the others not. Thanks, Japan. At least it's not as bad as my mother-in-law's house where taking a bath or going to the toilet in winter is like doing so in a refrigerator. On the other hand, more calories are burned keeping warm and this excuse for gluttony is worth it.
And then because you get used to living in unheated dwellings and bundle up to walk in freezing winds, when you get to the over-heated subway or train or building, you immediately begin sweating and clawing off your layers, feel like passing out.

(46,179 posts)with today's high forecast for 29, and snow falling.
Finally, I can go all day without being too hot, unless they turn up the heat too high in the building at work.
