The Comic & Graphic Novel Suggestion Thread

I recently got a comic reader on my iPad mini & now I'm addicted again. I could use some suggestions though. I've read a few myself. Here's a list:

-The Walking Dead (duh, best ever)
-The Boys (not for the squeamish but what a concept)
-The Dark Tower (any King translates well to comic)
-Battlestar Galactica (just cause I loved the show)
-Marvels Civil War (great commentary)

I'd love some more if ya got any. Thanks!

then you need to read Marvel's adaptation of "The Stand".

"Watchmen", if you've never read it.

If you like The Boys you might try "Crossed", also by Garth Ennis (well, created by him). If Garth created "The Walking Dead", this is what you'd get.

Boom! Studios did a great "28 Days Later" comic that bridged the gap between the movies.

I forgot to mention 28 Days Later. I picked that up and flew through it. Imma big fan of the movie(s). I didn't see that The Stand was done so that's on the list. And I'm absolutely checking out Crossed.

Watchmen and V For Vendetta are terrific, too, though hampered by ordinary artwork.

The 90s series by Peter Milligan and Chris Bachalo, among others. A very bizarre comic that, along with Sandman (I second that series!) and Hellblazer (another good one) led to DC starting Vertigo Comics.

Also, pretty much anything by Alan Moore is worth reading. In addition to Watchmen and V for Vendetta, he did The League of Extraordinary Gentleman. Two titles I especially liked were Tom Strong and Promethea. Promethea also is known for its gorgeous artwork by J.H. Williams.

I'm afraid I haven't kept up with current comics for the last ten years or so, when I had to sell off my collection. I'm sort of slowly getting back into it, though. But I'm like you, I'd like to find some quality titles!

its the story behind Injustice Gods Among Us video game, there are three graphics out for it now and its great. I picked them up about two weeks ago, and I'm hooked. In short, Superman goes off the deep end when some awful things happen.

Baby Superman' s ship lands in the USSR instead of the USA. Many of the DC icons, but very different agendas.

Star Man - sins of our fathers (it's about a son that doesn't want to follow family foot steps yet is very much pushed into those steps) the opening pages should hook you.

Kingdom Come - all the Classic DC heroes older and retired take on the new 'heroes' that have gotten far too extreme to remain untethered

Y The Last Man (story of the last man (not last person) on earth)

The Sandman books by Gaiman are worth every second spent with them as well

Definitely read The Sandman. It might be the best comic series ever. He also did a couple of mini-series about Death, the Sandman's sister; Death: The High Cost of Living, and Death: The Time Of Your Life. Both were also illustrated by Chris Bachalo and I recommend those, too. But after you start The Sandman. She doesn't appear until issue #8.

Other good Vertigo titles were Fables, 100 Bullets, and Transmetropolitan.

WANTED - What if everything in your life was out of your hands and those around you propelled your fate? Your girlfriend left you for your best friend; your boss gave your job to someone better. What if then, after all this, someone gave you back total control? What if he revealed you were the next in line to join a secret society of super-villains that controlled the entire planet?

Fantastic artwork & great story found here. Ignore that ball-less, insipid movie that came out with Angeline Jolie a few years back.

NEMESIS - Imagine if you can, what if Batman turned bad? He'd put a beat-down on anybody that gets in his way. Especially, the good guys.

HELLBOY:SEEDS OF DESTRUCTION - Yeah, they based a movie of this but the source material is where it's at. You need to see Mignola's masterful artwork. Big Red is what all the cool kids are reading.

THE GOON - The nameless man, the Zombie Priest, has come to town to build a gang from the undead. But even the undead fear the Goon, mob enforcer and protector of the downtrodden residents of Lonely Street. With Powell's stunning artwork, The Goon's unique mash-up of horror, mob intrigue, and the sickest sense of humor in comics is an instant classic.

There are over 10 volumes of The Goon out there and you NEED to get them all.

LONE WOLF & CUB OMNIBUS - The story centers on Ogami Ittō, the Shogun's Executioner, during Japan's feudal period. Framed as a traitor by the agents of a rival clan he is forced to take the path of an assassin in his quest for revenge. It is a choice he also gives his son Daigoro by allowing the toddler to choose between a ball or a sword; when the child chooses the sword their fates are sealed. They are reborn as Lone Wolf and Cub, Swords for hire.

This is one of the greatest stories ever told. Beautifully illustrated and these books have like 600-700 pages a piece. Plus it's about a Samurai with his son. You just cant' go wrong here.

MARSHALL LAW:THE DELUXE EDITION - In the spirit of JUDGE DREDD and the current hit series THE BOYS, MARSHAL LAW is a violent, satirical series about a futuristic law official charged with policing super-heroes gone rogue by any means necessary, all while fighting his own self-hatred for being the thing he hates most: a super-hero.

What a crazy, crazy book this is. Filled with satire and the blackest of black humor ever put into comic form. This is a book that you need in your life.
