Michael Brown - he deserves, but will never get justice. Like funerals, justice is not for the dead, it is for the living.
I honor all that Micheal Brown and countless others could have been and achieved in life ... if they had been allowed to live. But now that is a permanently unfulfilled dream.
Like Steinbeck says, Up ahead they's a thousan' lives we might live, but when it comes it'll on'y be one.
And that's the tragedy of it. Michael Brown just got the one without justice.
One of my favorite lines from Steinbeck's phenominal The Grapes of Wrath is when Granpa is buried along side the road (what a metaphor) and Kacey, the former preacher , is asked to say words over his body.
"I wouldn't pray just for a old man that's dead, 'cause he's all right. If I was to pray, I'd pray for folks that's alive and don't know which way to turn."
That's what I'd pray for too: Justice for folks that's alive and don't know which way to turn.
