I need an new matress and box springs, any guidance?

The current one will be leaving in about 3 weeks. I want another queen size low box spring ( so the dog & cats can get up easily). When I got this one, it was a case of point and lie down for 10 min. Now that I'm more mobility limited, I need some thing more supportive. Thanks for any help.

remember when choosing such things was easy? Now the choices are overwhelming and the prices can be sky high

The sales persons are more prone to cutting deals then. They want the sale on that months quota.

4. Also, go to the mattress stores not big box unless you find a really good sale.

The stores will negotiate over the price. Also, inquire about the floor models that they want to sale. I was able to buy a Tempur-Pedic floor model for about 1/4 of the cost of a new one.

And I love that mattress.

The mattress was made in Davenport, Iowa by American workers. I was afraid of getting something shoddy, made in an overseas sweatshop. I also worried that it might have chemicals or materials that would make us ill. The prices were comparable to prices in other stores. We don't like big box stores.

8. I bought a new mattress this past summer. Egads! The prices are stupid!

I bought a new mattress this past summer. Egads! The prices are... well, the prices aren't what I'd thought they'd be. Bought it at the Sears discount outlet with a 60% off deal, and it was still over $1,000 for a queen.

Sure, the mattress is nice, and it's great to wake up with no back pain-- but should a decent mattress cost more than a used car?

One of my neighbors had a lot of problems with a mattress she bought from Sleepy's or Mattress Warehouse, I forget which.

Usually I have bought mattresses at stores like Sears or Macy's when they are on sale. I also do research in Consumer Reports at the public library before buying.

We generally stick with Sealy or Serta.

May is supposedly the best month to buy a mattress.

And it doesn't need a box spring.

Plus, if other creatures are in bed with you, you won't feel them moving around.

The Salvation Army or Goodwill often sells refurbished mattresses. All new fabrics and fillings, etc.

12. Seepy's actually has a lot of mattresses on clearance on line for huge discounts not advertised

it was a bit tricky to find, but many mattresses on regular sale are also more deeply discounted in a harder to find clearance section of their site. They carry great brands! I bought a natural latex foam, since the memory foam feels too warm for me, and love it. You sink in just enough to not feel any pressure points, but don't feel smothered. They come in dffernt depths, and do not need a box spring, just slats.
Another great thing is that they do not wobble or shake at all when animals or anyone jumps in with you. My last bed used to wake me up when they would jump in and out in the middle of the night.

I tried it out at a much more expensive store, then found it on Sleepy's site for 75% off. They take automatic reductions off warehouse stock depending on how long it has been there. So the same mattress can be listed with 4-5 different prices. I found bunch listed at 60%, but when I went in to the store, the guy checked the updated database and found one discounted even deeper. And he assured me that I'd likely get a much newer one, since they are just all in a pile and they just grab the top one.

after house-sitting for my daughter and sleeping on her bed for a week. Wow, what a difference! Prior to that, I used to wake up every morning with a terrible back-ache. I just thought I was getting old, LOL. (I'm in my 60's). After two days sleeping on her memory foam mattress, my back-ache went away. She told me that she bought her mattress at Ikea, so I looked online and there it was! The price was right, too. Now, no more back-ache in the morning.

On edit: I just replaced the mattress and used my old box springs for the foundation, as the box springs were still in good condition. Your mileage may vary.
