Gamers: What small label games have occupied way too much of your time?

For me there was Binding of Isaac Rebirth, but I just finished it up (at last until the DLC this summer). Incredibly twisted story, procedurally generated levels, insane replayability and old school feel.

Now, I am entrenched in Helldivers in the Sony sphere of influence. Crossplay between Vita, PS3 and PS4 plus a persistent world that connects every player together (even if they're not sharing the same missions). Decent sense of humor in the game, the ability to play for just a few minutes to many hours and the fact that the multiplayer is both fun and chaos defined (twin stick shooter with hordes of enemies and friendly fire permanently turned on). I honestly don't know when I am going to get tired of this game.

What other gems are out there currently from smaller developers?

On the X Box 360. Until Skyrim came out, that was my default after-work game.

Not indie like Binding of Isaac, but done by Ascaron, which was a mid-tier European studio about 10 years ago. It's still the alltime champ of economic/management sim-type games, and the setting (Late Medieval-Early Renaissance Hanseatic League) is unique.

Oh, and Dwarf Fortress, though I eventually got to the point where I decided that the neat emergent gameplay moments that are the main attraction of that game are surrounded by dozens of hours of tedious micromanagement, and it's more fun to read other peoples distillation of their games than it actually is to play.

called The Hunters by Comsim Press about the Early WWII U-Boat Campaign, seems to be very well designed and enjoyable.

Where you play God, basically, creating a civilization. You have to keep your followers happy or they defect to another god.

I really enjoyed the heck out of Dark Fall, even though I made it through almost the entire game without one crucial piece of equipment. Another nice creepy atmospheric game I liked was Scratches.
