Parkinsons' for more than a decade. It was peaceful and we all had a good numbers of goodbyes with her since she stopped eating months ago. She grew up in the country so she was very community oriented which she carried into her life with my dad in Ottawa. The most important theme in her life was service. She was a good egg. She believed in a stiff upper lip. Kind of a throwback mother. In summers she and my dad would garden together for hours and hours. My mom insisted that cbc radio be played in the background of our life. It was a wonderful childhood. Love you mum.

(118,501 posts)She used to tell me the strengths I had when I was 12. Late in life I rediscouvered those very strengths. I should have paid more attention to her then.

My grandmother (Dad's mom) had Parkinson's for as long as I could remember. Had to be for 20 years or so. Awful disease.

(23,950 posts)...and no matter how much of a release from suffering it might be, I don't think we are ever totally ready to say that last farewell to the person who loved us before she even met us. I am 64 and my mom is 93, and I know I am not ready.
Wishing you the strength and support you need as you adjust to this inevitable event.
