"disco dancing" survey, for light-hearted fun only

For fun only. Seriously. This is only for fun.

At one point, I was out 5 nights a week.

...there was slow dancing and jiving. We all took lessons from the older sisters before our first dance. The objective was not to enjoy the music, just not embarrass ourselves as we zeroed in on the girl we wanted to take home.

Later in the 60's when breaking rules became a virtue, and 'getting into ones self' became the norm, the dance bands and the dancers couldn't get together and for a decade, everybody did their own thing. Long painful guitar solos, incomprehensible drum rhythms and dancers that could only stand in front of each other and try to mirror the others moves.

Bands didn't have to do anything interesting to get people onto the dance floor. Maybe a cover tune now and then....or a "hot" lead singer.
Disco was a breath of fresh air. After a couple of decades of rock and roll and mind-numbing dance rituals, disco gave the culture room to grow into what we have now....nationally televised amateur dance competitions, and, what I think is important, the recognition of the health and spiritual benefits of moving to music and the physical connection with your dance partner. Of the disco era I always felt this dance and music said it all. It was all about the feeling between the dancers.

Everyone always bashed disco. My response was, OK, you want intellectual, GO READ A GREAT BOOK. I thought the point of music and dancing was to enjoy oneself ? You go enjoy rock or soul or R&B or etc etc, and I'll enjoy my freaking disco.

Get offa my lawn LOL

(I was in my mid-thirties) I was lying in bed one night eating pretzels and watching highlights of the royal wedding (Diana and Charles) on TV. I dozed off and when I woke up a little later, Laura Brannigan was singing and ultra cool people were dancing in a nightclub to the newest dance craze, the Disco. They were dressed beautifully, and everyone’s hair was stylish and the women’s makeup made them all look like movie stars. Colored lights reflected off mirrored globes hanging from the ceiling. What glamour! Exhausted from so much excitement, with the royal wedding + seeing disco all in one night, I went back to sleep and stayed that way till morning.

That was a world-wide media frenzy! I can remember getting up extra early before work to see some of the highlights. The gown, the hair, Di screwing up Charles' name!

The anticipation of waiting to see Diana's gown was fun, but I remember groaning when I saw it.

She screwed up his name? I don't recall that. I must have dozed off during that part.

"Royal names tend to resemble a royal flush. The late Princess Diana famously messed up her future husband's four names on their wedding day in 1981, saying at the time, "Philip Charles Arthur George" instead of Charles Philip Arthur George."

I can't even imagine how nervous they must have been. Hundreds of millions of people were watching. Heck, I was nervous at mine, and we just had immediate family!

Diana may not have been the first royal bride to mess up her husband's names. She was probably nervous, but Charles may not have been since he'd been in the public eye from the day he was born and was probably used to it.

Diana was demure and lovely, and she looked very happy. What a tragedy it turned out to be for both of them. Very sad.
