(14,498 posts)I'd never get that big Shepherd into a tub of water.
I love it when my guy gets OUT btw. It's like a scene from The Exorcist when he tries to get dry.
Absolute pandemonium.

(19,459 posts)I gave our three dogs their bi-weekly bath today (Chihuahua, Chihuahua/Yorkie mix, and a Beauceron). They all seem to enjoy it, especially the Beauceron. At 16 yrs. old I think she enjoys the warm water on her old bones.

(35,619 posts)to have three beautiful dogs. And they go with your couch and pillows, too!
I'd hug 'em all if I were there.

(20,582 posts)I tried to get my 120 lb. Great Pyrenees cross (he rolled in something, only the devil knows what) into the bathtub yesterday, he laid down at the door, so I put on his harness and eventually dragged his dead weight close enough to lift his front paws on the edge so I could go behind and somehow lift the rest, but he flopped around like a beanie-bag. I put on my shorts and got in, tempted him with a piece of cheese - still, no way. Yet, every slough he sees when we go walking or running he has to walk/wade through - maybe the cow poop makes the water nicer.
I'll have to find a kids swimming pool to set outside and warm up some water. But, I don't believe my chances will be good getting him into even that.

(50,983 posts)He was ready to fight at the very thought of having his newly acquired aroma removed.
He was a feisty little terrier type anyway. He started showing his teeth when brother in law grabbed him up.
The process was simple. Squirt him with soap, lather, pitch him in the pond, repeat as necessary. It was an awful experience for everyone involved.
This sort of thing happened several times with that particular dog. He loved cows and their smell apparently. [IMG][/IMG]

(20,582 posts)That is such an awful smell, it's so funny how much he fought to keep it. I'm actually more afraid of those little dogs - they're so fast and cheeky when they want to be. The only time I've ever been bitten was by a Shitzu(sp) cross that bit my cheek when I leaned in to give him a hug on the couch. Boom, I didn't even have time to see it coming.
My dog is the gentlest dog on the planet. Little kids, on hot days, have given him chips and treats he was panting too much to swallow, so they'd reach back in his mouth and pull them out again. I thought it would be easy to get him into the tub. He didn't snarl or anything, he just played dead.
Silly dogs. They've all got their own personalities and are all so lovable and funny because of them.
My Obie last fall - he's gained even more weight since then. He was very thin at 80 lbs. when I got him from the Humane Society and is now two, so hopefully now he won't get too much bigger. I gave him a good brushing yesterday and this morning but the smell is still there, it was cold here for an outside bath and still is cool today. So, hopefully tomorrow.

Some of those dogs were just plain scary!
I don't get my Jake. Can't keep him out of a lake, pond, stream, ocean, or mucky swale.
But bathtub, shower or even an outdoor kiddie pool? Nope, nada, nyet.

(20,582 posts)Dachshund cross - the smartest dog I ever had the pleasure of having. I was playing ball one day, and went out all the way into left field before I, d'oh, remembered I'd forgotten my glove. A few seconds later who comes out running as fast as his short little legs would carry him with my glove in his mouth but Casey - I can only think that someone told him to take it out, but probably never really expected it. A few innings later I forgot my hat - again - he came running with it, but it turned in the wind and ended up right on his head backwards. The infielders thought he was playing and started chasing him off the field but he dodged and darted around them to get it out to me. Everyone was laughing at him. He was hilarious. A super smart, funny dog.
