National Nutty Fudge
Day There is something special about the nutty fudge, and today you have a perfect excuse to indulge in this sweet delight.
There are several stories floating around the creation of fudge. One of them refers to a letter by Emelyn Bettersby Hartridge, that was written in 1886 at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. She said, that her cousin had made fudge and sold it for 40 cents per pound in Baltimore, Maryland. Hartridge obtained the recipe and made 30 pounds of this treat for the Vassar College Senior Auction in 1888.

Another legend tells about a young apprentice caramel maker who was stirring the pot while his boss was serving customers. The apprentice made a mistake and when the boss returned, the caramel was so grainy, that it was totally ruined. Nevertheless, the customers loved the treat and called it fudge after the name of the apprentice, who made it by mistake.

There are even more stories about the invention of fudge, but don't waist time for it. Grab a box of your favorite nutty fudge with pecan or walnuts and celebrate the holiday with your friends, coworkers and family. https://anydayguide.com/calendar/1013

International Nurses Day Every year the nurses around the globe celebrate their professional holiday International Nurses Day on May 12. This holiday is dedicated to all nurses and marks their contributions to the society.
International Nurses Day has been celebrated since 1965 by the International Council of Nurses. The idea of the holiday belongs to Dorothy Sutherland. As an official, she proposed this holiday to be proclaimed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, but he didn't approve it. The day of celebration was chosen only in 1974 and it became May 12, since it's the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who is widely considered as the founder of modern nursing.

International Nurses Day is celebrated in many countries, for instance, a special service is held in Westminster Abbey in London. A symbolic lamp is taken from the altar and it's handed from one nurse to another. This simple act signifies the passing of knowledge from nurse to nurse. A service is also held at St Margaret's Church at East Wellow in Hampshire. Florence Nightingale was buried at this church, that is why a special service is also held on the Sunday after her birthday. https://anydayguide.com/calendar/530

National Limerick Day Observed annually on May 12, National Limerick Day celebrates the birthday of English artist, illustrator, author and poet Edward Lear (May 12, 1812 – Jan. 29, 1888). Lear is known mostly for his literary nonsense in poetry prose and limericks.

National Limerick Day also celebrates the limerick poem. Limerick poems were popularized by Edward Lear’s book “Book of Nonsense” in 1846.

A limerick is a very short, humorous, nonsense poem. Within a limerick there are five lines. The first two lines rhyme with the fifth line and the third and fourth line rhyme together. http://nationaldaycalendar.com/calendar-at-a-glance/may/

Odometer Day National Odometer Day is observed each year on May 12. This is a day to learn a little bit about the odometer.

An odometer is an instrument that indicates the distance traveled by a vehicle. It may be electronic, mechanical or a combination of both.

Odometer comes from the Greek words hodos meaning path or gateway andmetron, meaning measure.

In some countries, an odometer is called a mileometer, milometer or tripometer.

Odometers were first developed in the 1600′s for wagons and other horse-drawn vehicles in order to measure distances traveled. http://nationaldaycalendar.com/days-2/national-odometer-day-may-12/

National Women's Check-up Day Led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health and as part of National Women’s Health Week, the second Monday in May is National Women’s Checkup Day.

The goal of National Women’s Checkup Day 2014 leaders is to encourage all women to schedule an annual well-woman visit.

Yearly well-woman visits are important and should include discussions of your health habits and family history, setting health goals and scheduling or receiving screenings or necessary exams.
