Best Gene Hackman Movie Ever?

Last edited Sat May 23, 2015, 03:22 PM - Edit history (2)

That scene at the end of The Birdcage with Gene Hackman in drag was hilarious, IMO.
(The Birdcage, a first rate comedy, also starred Robin Williams & Nathan Lane)

I wanted to add to the list of options the following great Gene Hackman movies, but, alas, they only allow you 10 Poll options

Young Frankenstein..("Wait..I was going to make espresso&quot
Mississippi Burning
Get Shorty
Scarecrow
The Firm
The Royal Tenenbaums
The Quick and the Dead
A Bridge Too Far
Behind Enemy Lines
Heist
I Never Sang For My Father
(and many others as well, including The Replacements)

I'm surprised it only got one vote so far.
I've seen it many, many times.

(I've never seen Runaway Jury)

He got to go deeper into the character he portrayed in the first one.

Although: his brief appearance in Young Frankenstein burns forever in the memory of everyone who ever saw it.

"My name is Harold. What's yours?"
"ARRRRGGHHHHH!"
"I didn't catch that."

I'm cracking up just thinking about that great scene, with Peter Boyle

He ladles out scalding hot soup on him, and later sets his thumb on fire

I've seen it many times.

I loved the San Francisco locations, especially the scene in Union Square.

It was written, produced and directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

It has a great cast, including Robert Duvall, Harrison Ford and Teri Garr.

I often wonder why Cindy Williams never became a "star"...she was great in that role.

Great movie too.
I watched it in theaters many times.

Another great line from that movie:
Gene Hackman as Buck Barrow (Clyde's brother)
"Son, whatever you do, don't sell that cow!"

I'll take out Get Shorty, (since no one has picked it so far), and insert Hoosiers.

(I've probably seen Get Shorty at least 30 times...outstanding movie, IMO)

OK, 85%. Amazing actor.

Although I don't like Clint's politics...I do love his movies, as an actor and as a director.

Unforgiven might be the most realistic western I've ever seen.

I think my favorite Clint Eastwood film is "City Heat"..with Burt Reynolds
At the end he tells Burt: "You'll always be 'Shorty' to me"
