Back from a 5-6 hour session this afternoon. Down about $50 in the end, but enjoyed every minute of it. Don't get to play as much as I'd like, or as much as I used to.
Don't hit them quite as straight as when I played more. As any self-respecting pool player will tell you, I used to be a CHAMPION! LOL.
Even have my own cue! I used to work at a tavern with tables so I got a lot of practice in!

(20,886 posts)I worked in an animation studio that handled overflow from Hanna Barbera. It was in a house and the dining room sported a pool table. The other assistant animator and I took frequent breaks to shoot a little 8-ball. We got pretty good. These days, I'm lucky to see the ball, much less hit it.
I play in in BCA and ACS league teams.
I wish I were as good as I think I am.
Some nights I scare myself with how good I leave the cue ball.
Some nights I scare myself with how bad I'm shooting.

(20,709 posts)Pretty much sums it up. I still basically think I'm going to run out every time I get to the table. A very strange belief to cling to, given the rather large body of empirical evidence to the contrary...

My husband used to enjoy playing pool. He was pretty good. Oh so I've heard.

(16,057 posts)He was playing for $3800 a game. Won two of three. That was 1964.
I played better at 8 years old than I will ever play now.

(20,709 posts)I've played a little snooker, but it's not easy to find places with tables here in the US.
Snooker is humiliating. Not only is the table huge, but the pockets are tiny. There are no easy shots on a snooker table.

My ex-husband once took me to play pool somewhere that required quarters in the table...we were on vacation and stopped in to get inside during the storm. He wished, not long after, that he hadn't stopped at the table right up front where everyone was watching. A line formed of impatient people wanting their turn, until he finally stopped being kind and started just clearing the table each time so that our paid games were done, instead of trying to spare my feelings.
When we played at a private table, he generally bided his time and gave me plenty of opportunities to finally get something, anything, in a pocket before he beat me.

(15,205 posts)I'm an OK player, nothing spectacular and we don't play for money. The one thing I can't seem to get the hang of is hitting the cue ball when it is sitting at the edge ( I usually end up hitting the table instead)!
