I tried to revive my old thread on this but I can't do that, apparently (too old?)It'll be opening here tomorrow (it's listed as 'Labor Day Weekend'). Rotten Tomatoes is ambivalent at present, but the trailer makes me want to go see it anyway although we'll probably wait a few days. Did anybody here see it yet?
Here's a documentary about Bill Bryson's early life in Des Moines, IA, made when Thunderbolt Kid came out, presumably:

(20,175 posts)You're right. They're too old. Of course Emma Thompson was still cast as Redford's wife even though she's more than 20 years younger. Some things never change in Hollywood.

(25,472 posts)Two guys hiking, I think it'd be hard to make interesting without a lot of slapstick humor and "I'm too old for this" sort of jokes. The book was my least favorite Bryson work but the part about the bears was really funny.

(6,261 posts)I remember our discussion, but I failed to follow up. I'm looking at Amazon presently, and I have added his Borneo and Congo books to my Amazon queue. Are those two a good way to get started on his stuff, you think?
GusBob
(7,286 posts)Borneo yes then amazon trip ( in trouble again)
Then Congo
The Congo book is my favorite but it is heavy heavy duty
The others are fun. More like Bryson
