Any rabbit behavior experts?

I know rabbits that are ready to drop kits tend to dig holes. Not deep ones, but just large enough to catch the newborns. Some of those holes are so in the open that you can't imagine the rabbits will utilize them. The other day I did find a hole that was five inches wide and three inches deep that was excavated under a holly bush. As everyone knows, these shrubs have very thorny leaves.

Today I walked by the hole and it was filled with holly leaves. About a dozen leaves. Some were still connected to their twig size branches. These leaves were fresh, like they had just been taken down from the shrub. There were no other leaves under the bush. It very much looked like the leaves were plucked from the bush and intentionally placed in the hole.

Anyone have any idea why a rabbit would begin to store food in this manner?
