I am on a Led Zep mailing list (since the early 90s) and they are very popular with the list members that have seen them.

I believe Robert Plant thinks highly of them as well if that's worth anything to you.

So far the only professional LZ cover band I've seen is Get The Led Out and I think they are terrific. SUPER nice guys (and a lady) in the band too. (One of them is also on the mailing list I'm on).

I'd definitely go see them if they were playing around here. I'm sure it would be worth it to you.

about 6-7 years ago a friend actually did drag me up to BB King's in NYC to see another Led Zeppelin tribute band perform. It was actually done on Plant's birthday and although I really hate tribute bands as a concept eventually I said 'why not'.

The opening act was Lez Zeppelin and they were actually pretty good, but we were there because this friend of a friend in the group swore this other band was 'so fricking awesome' it was like seeing the real thing.

I just know that other band was so awful I end up mainlining overpriced Patron shots at the bar. That idiot who drug us there actually recorded the entire concept (yes bootlegs of LZ tribute bands) and said he'd send me a CD. I just laughed and said if I wanted to hear Led Zeppelin I'd just, you know, listen to the actual Led Zeppelin band since I have all the albums.

Led Zeppelin covers with a reggae beat and an Elvis impersonator, they were really pretty good

in a nutshell a hate fricking tribute bands and won't spend a dime to see one in concert. You can scroll up to read my review of some other nameless LZ tribute band - 4 middle-aged assholes whole treated every LZ song like it was a hair metal scream fest. Led Zeppelin has never really been a true heavy metal band although they can rock hard with the best of the heavy metal bands out there. So when a tribute band screams through songs like 'Thank You' or 'Ramble On' then I wonder why did I allow someone to drag me to such an awful mess.

But there are exceptions to all rules. I like Dread Zeppelin because come on reggae versions of Led Zeppelin songs as sung by an Elvis impersonator. I'd think even Robert Plant and Jimmy Page would approve.

And Lez Zeppelin- they were the opening act to that crapfest tribute band at BB Kings and they were actually really good. Probably because they understood that Led Zeppelin was a blues rock band. The girls understood the nuances of the band members they were honoring but brought a bit of themselves to it too. I really only think a woman could best understand how to truly do a Robert Plant song circa mid-1970s or for that matter a good Jimmy Page guitar solo. Most men want to treat this music like 'hard jack-rabbit f*****g' that goes way to fast, ends way too quick and no one enjoys. Plant never sang like that nor did Page play like that but most tribute bands do exactly that. Lez Zeppelin gets it - it's a woman thing!
