I really liked Mazzy Star, especially their first two albums...but that's because I really loved Opal and was really disappointed when she up and quit during a tour before they were to play Portland.
I was pleasantly surprised by Hope Sandoval's singing and ended up liking them as well. Her singing is lovely and ethereal. The first Mazzy Star album was originally to be an Opal record and the sound is similar to Opal. Later, once she was able to write songs, their sound became more laid back (but still good!)
I had the Hope Sandoval and The Warm Inventions cd and I would recommend that plus also too!

Hey, look what I found!
