The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI'm excited about grocery shopping.
A few months ago we decided to stop eating out so much and get most of our food from the grocery. We would spend about $100 a week for the two of us. That included a lot of processed foods, but we were still coming out way ahead of what we had been doing. Last week we shopped like we ordinarily would and spent $107.
Well, if you've read my recent posts here in the lounge, you know I'm trying to be more healthy. I've got my wife on the bandwagon now, too.
We just got back from our weekly shopping trip. We got everything we needed for the week and spent $65. There have been times when we spent that on one meal out. We cut out a lot of the processed stuff and red meat. We bought a lot more fruit and vegetables.
I'm really excited about this!
On a weight loss note, I was able to bend over and tie my shoes today without much effort. Before today I would have had a hard time breathing while doing that.

(102,225 posts)6-8 mile/day average walks, eating minimally processed healthy foods-- focusing on moderately low, yet healthy net carbs and fiber, healthy fats and adequate protein, and not wasting food hardly at all (something I was dismal about in the past).
I don't shop often now as I keep my routine staples on hand and only go for perishables. My trips are quick because I rarely venture into the interior aisles of the store where all the pre-packaged/processed foods reside.
So, yeah, I can relate. And I am proudly at the weight and size I once was in my 20s. I feel better (and get to sleep easier) than I have in years. It has truly been worth it!
Keep it up, Tobin!

(62,406 posts)It really hit home with us. We have had great success with it. We fell off the bandwagon for @ 6 months due to Mrs. Libs ilnesses but we are happily back on it and feeling great.

there may be some good tips and recipes over there. See what you think. Their philosophy is as close to raw food as possibly, no animal products (meat, cheese, eggs)
BTW - get a steamer for some fantastic veggies without too much work. That and salsa have been my saviors
Almost forgot to add - we are really cheering you on and doing the same along with you.
