I don't remember now if I actually did applaud, but it's the 30th anniversary and it was a real feel-good film that made everybody feel better about the world. Honestly, who didn't cheer when McFly senior punched out Biff?

I laughed and applauded the moment Darth Vader made his first appearance, following a few storm troopers through a hatch that had just been blown open in a spaceship carrying R2D2, C3PO, and Princess Leia. Other people in the theater looked at me like I came from another planet.

Everyone applauded when the Death Star exploded at the end of the movie. That of course was the end of some bad guys that I had grown fond of, especially Grand Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing).

As an aside - I also liked the Klingons. They were the baddest of the bad guys in the Star Trek series.

when we saw The Right Stuff in the theater. It was released when John Glenn was running for president so it MSM treated it like it was supposed to be this serious film. But if you read the book it really isn't meant to be taken that seriously. It really showed how foolish people reacted where the first astronauts were concerned. My mother and I just hooted throughout the first half of the film. I found the film to absolutely hysterical.

The whole Alan Shepard scene of having to relieve himself in the capsule was hilarious.

There are little things you might miss in the background that make it even better. Like while Mission Control is telling Shepard to hold it, you see one of the controllers walking out of the bathroom flushing the toilet.

...it wasn't QUITE the end, but it was the movie's climax. I was in my early teens, and watching it from the balcony of New Orleans' Saenger Theatre. When I realized that neither Robert Redford nor Paul Newman were really shot (or dead), I couldn't help but react with all the enthusiasm of starry-eyed youth. (Still feel that way when I watch the movie now, even though I know the ending.)

He was the person who traveled all over to find all the old hospital gadgetry for the hospital scenes. It's one of those things audiences rarely notice or appreciate when there are movies set in earlier times.

He's my ex-husband for the last 20 years. He's a stagehand.

Perhaps also with the hilarious barium enema scene where Sheppard gets stared down and lectured in an elevator by a huge Hispanic male nurse for his Jose Jimenez impersonation.
