4. Yeah, you have to appreciate some of the facets of cricket to see the humour.

But some of those are genuinely funny.

The most ardent cricket fan I ever met was actually an American who came to Australia because she had an Australian boyfriend. For some reason, she just loved cricket.

Here's a pretty spectacular catch. By way of explanation...if the ball crosses the rope/boundary and hits the ground, the batsman gets 6 runs. If the first fielder launches himself from outside the rope or touches the ball while in contact with the field outside the rope, it's also 6 runs. The batsman is not out.

Best view at about 1:07.

I'm sure at some point we will end up discussing IPL cricket or this summer's Ashes series.

No. We won't. We lost. End of discussion!!!

Actually, it was an interesting series. Both sides showed great fragility in terms of batting. Every game resulted in a thumping victory for one of the teams.

The rugby was interesting the other night. I thought England had a good chance of getting back into it. They were poor in the first half, but we were poor in the first twenty minutes of the second half. And then the yellow card was shown. 33-13 looks pretty impressive but it was a lot closer than that scoreline suggests.

...when Australia threw the test match away with a batting collapse to match anything England did in the 90's.

As to the rugby, England have been poor. I think the hope now is that the stuffed blazers at Twickenham see sense and start allowing players like Steffon Armitage who play in France to be selected for England again.

I'm going to make an effort to see a match one of these days. I expect it will be my last as well as the first.

It's actually a pretty simple game...with just a few complicated rules.

Here's a couple of cricketing facts that might interest some of you...

- the first international cricket match was between the US and Canada
- George Washington apparently played a few games of cricket
- Bart King (USA) was instrumental in developing swing bowling
- Sir Pelham Warner described Bart King as "one of the finest bowlers of all time"
- Babe Ruth had a try out in the nets (practice area). He was pretty good (as you might expect)

At least in the UK. We went to 2 matches at Lords when we lived there. Spend the day in the sun, eating sandwiches, drinking wine...
