Lounge Detectives, how did this happen?

Before anyone says it, I know, I know first world problems. I am not upset at this, I am just wondering what to do about it.

I ordered three light fixtures from Wayfair.com.

The first arrived in the manufacturer's box. I could tell it was one of the fixtures I ordered.

The next day, a second plain box arrived. It was addressed to me so I opened it thinking it was one of the other fixtures I ordered. It wasn't. It was a different light fixture but I thought maybe I had accidentally ordered the wrong one. I checked my online order and no, I wasn't charged for it and it wasn't on the order. When I looked at the packing slip, it had information for Home Depot. I looked for return information, and it's all about third party shipping. Looks like it was being shipped to a Home Depot in Texas.

A couple of days later, the other two fixtures arrived.

I started by calling Wayfair. They wanted to verify my order and make sure everything was okay. They don't have the item number or order number for this other fixture so they said call Home Depot. I called Home Depot and they said it wasn't ordered from Home Depot and it's not their customer number etc. They said call UPS.

Keep in mind, when you call any of these companies, you get the automated phone tree and none of the numbers to push reflect the actual issue so you have to keep going to various departments until you can explain to someone that it ISN'T my order, etc.

UPS only cares about the tracking number. They have no idea what is being shipped. No, they say, it went to you. That's it. They don't want to pick it back up cause they have no idea who it's supposed to go to.

All I wanted is for someone to come back and pick it up.

Is this just a warehouse mixup? Should I call the Home Depot in Texas and waste more time? Did more than two labels get printed and they stuck it on a random light fixture? Should I just donate it to Goodwill?

When they say that hey can't give you your money back because you didn't order/pay for it in the first place, just leave it and walk off. It will screw up their inventory and accounting for months.

Yes, I'm guilty of evil thoughts sometimes.

it's probably more trouble for anybody to want to deal with at this point.

Many times on low ticket items, the company will tell you to keep an item rather than shipping it back. Shipping and restocking costs more than the item itself.

I didn't order nor was I billed for it, and the company didn't want it back.

I really think the law was aimed at what used to be a marketing tactic, but was worded rather broadly.

Not the same thing as mistaken delivery with someone else's name on it, of course.

I would put the unwanted item in a corner of a closet for a few months and then add it to my Goodwill box or a neighbor's yard sale, or even use it if I wanted to, cause no one else is claiming it, and you did you best to fix a problem that no one else seems interested in.

The original buyer will contact the original seller, and get it worked out, most likely by seller sending on another one.
Which may or may not come to you.....

I'm going to give it some time to see if anyone comes looking for it. Then I am donating it.

Purolator depot. They had stopped by my apartment and I was not home. They did not leave a note telling me they had been there and I had to go to the depot. I was supposed to divine that. After a period of time they sent my comforter set back to the USA because I did not pick it up...not knowing it had arrived in my city. Crazy eh? I called and asked and Purolator said that they don't leave notices because anyone in my building could grab it and redeem it for the parcel. I was supposed to be tracking my delivery online myself.

Where possible, I set up the thing that emails me status updates. Then I know when something has been delivered and I can go all over the yard or neighborhood looking for it before it gets rained on.

you could donate it to them. They could either use it in one if their houses or if they have one of their ReStore stores, they can sell it there.

Or you could sell it or give it away on Craigslist.
