The kitten was born with a condition called Microphthalmia, which apparently is Latin for small eyes. She has abnormally small eye sockets and is completely blind. A friend of mine feeds the feral cats in her neighborhood. The little blind kitten, along with her sister and Mother, showed up a few months ago. Blind kitty was starting to run around on her own and getting dangerously close to the road. So my friend trapped the blind one, followed by the mother and sister about a week later. My friend was looking for a permanent home for at least the blind kitten, but I thought it would be best if she had her sister with her. All three (mother, who is about a year old, and the two female kittens, now about 3 months old) are living in my house, along with my cranky old man cat. Ive had the 3 girls for about a month and the kittens have adjusted well to domesticated life; the mother, not so much.
Anyone have a good idea for names for the kittens? My family has suggested Keller for the blind one (Helen is too conservative for such a cute kitten). My daughter wants to name the blind one Stevie, as in Wonder. I need names for both kittens actually. The mother will probably be returned to my friends neighborhood after the winter has passed. Several of her siblings are still there and my friend feeds them daily. I dont think the mother will ever adjust to living inside.

(18,639 posts)I think 'Claire' for 'clear,' as this kitten can see clearly in her mind's eyes very well.

(14,624 posts)All of my mother's female family members, except for my generation, were named Claire this, Claire that, or So-and-so Claire. My mother's middle name is Claire. My daughter's middle name is Claire. I have always loved that name!

(50,566 posts)I think food pair names are cute for kittens, like
Chickpea and Butterbean
Peanut and Cashew
Cinnamon and Nutmeg
Tater and Spud
Ravioli and Macaroni
I think Stevie is a cute name, too. Maybe a Stella to go with it?
Or Lola and Lulu?

(5,141 posts)I love silly nicknames for kitties - GorillaPants is called Tahnee (a silly version of Tiny, cause she was on the verge of starving to death when I found her so shes now the worlds smallest maine coon), Mimi is Ninew (again another silly mispronunciation of Little; she was 4 days old when I found her) and Chance is either called Le Pants or Exchequer. Chance is my constant shadow, along with my dogs.
Yes, I am weird thanks for noticing

(14,944 posts)I call him lots of affectionate names when we are snuggling though. My friends who have Mz McButterpants also have a kitty named Edie Beets. Because she is an itty bitty kitty. Also, very mean to Willow McB.
I do love kitties!

(14,624 posts)I have been calling them Pumpkin and Puddin' since they don't have real names yet.
These are New Orleans cats, so I've kind of been leaning toward French foods or wines. I like Beaujolais, though it kind of sounds like a boy's name. Bordeaux seems too formal. I hate the taste of Chardonnay, so I wouldn't use that name. Most of the food names I can think of sound masculine (Gumbo, Andouille, Beignet, Remoulade, Jambalaya).
I have several ferals living in my backyard named Cajun, Creole, VooDoo and Mojo. Maybe I should try to think of jazz musicians?

(50,566 posts)Jelly Roll (after Jelly Roll Morton) and Louisa (Armstrong)?
Beignet (that one sounds feminine to me) and Bechet (after Sidney Bechet), mixing a food and a person, but you have the b + "aye" sound at the end of both.
Just thought of another food name that sounds feminine: "Roux" (the base of gumbo). Maybe pair with "Okra"?
