I've never really "gotten" the New Year countdown celebration

People have been standing in a crowd in Times Square for 12+ hours all to countdown from ten, kiss, yell, and go home. When I was a kid it was cool to watch my calculator watch hit midnight and see the date change. It was a minor thrill, but it faded.

That adults still do this for a rush is beyond me. Plus I tend to avoid the bars, especially with all the amateurs who will drink for hours, countdown from ten, and all pile into their cars and hit the road at 12:30.

I guess what I'm trying to say is Happy New Year and get the hell off my lawn.

wanted to say hi to one of the bartenders who'd been on vacation and wish everyone a happy new year. however, for the same reasons you stated, you would not catch me at a bar this late on new year's eve. husband and i haven't done anything other than sit around in our jammies for at least five years. last year we watched peewee's playhouse and smoked a bunch of hash. we might hang out with the neighbors later but it's looking like a night of katamari for us.

went to visit friends for the weekend, so we are dog-sitting for their three dogs. Plus our two makes five. Two Yorkie/Maltese mixes, two Pomeranian Maltese mixes and a Shitzu/Poodle. When they all start barking at once it's as noisy as any New Year's party. Going to be a warm bed tonight with all of them.

disposable money and had enough $ to rent an apartment that overlooks the square. Many people who live there will rent their homes/apartments for just that week.
