We started decorating on the 22nd and finished on the 24th. It's a cut tree from out back. My husband takes down a pine to thin them for the remaining pines, and the top 8' becomes our tree. This year I'm holding out for the 6th of January before anything comes down.
Meanwhile, across the road - their tree was to the curb Christmas morning!

As for our tree this year: we had it up the week after Thanksgiving. We'll take it down sometime this week...

(1,355 posts)Luckily we had an artificial tree in the attic...once we put it up, the cat left it alone.
We just took the artificial tree down yesterday.

(4,851 posts)We like it for a couple of weeks, but after 2 weeks the nice smell is gone, it stops taking significant water and the needles start to drop. 2 weeks is about all we do.

(16,330 posts)the tree sat on the back porch for a while before we brought it in the weekend before Christmas. Today, I will remove the ornaments and my husband will remove the lights. Then it'll probably sit in the room for a couple of days before my husband takes it out and throws it in the woods.
We did take all of the outdoor decor down on Saturday which was a record for us!

(1,965 posts)We'd put up the tree over Thanksgiving weekend. On New Years day, my Mom would take all the decorations off, and my Dad would drag it out to the curb, where the city would collect it within a couple days. By the time I was 12, or so and being the youngest, we stopped with the tree altogether.
My wife and I pretty much followed that tradition, and now haven't had a tree in some 20 years.

(12,761 posts)... and down sometime after Epiphany, January 6.
We're really pretty lax on the before and after, as long as we have the tree standing and decorated from Dec 18 to Jan 6.
We've been doing fake trees for quite some time, so no needle worries. But keeping the pre-lits lit is something else. Sometimes the tree can be up so long, parts of light strands will wink out before Christmas Eve, which makes me not jolly. And changing those tiny little fuses NEVER works.
