That's the "classy" choice.

The MST3K version of "Mitchell!" is my goofy choice.

In addition to It's a Wonderful Life, Blazing Saddles and The Princess Bride, I often turn to The Shawshank Redemption, Casablanca, Hackers and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

In terms of TV shows, Gilmore Girls, The Flash, Psych, Sherlock and The IT Crowd always help.

And yes, I have a very weird set of tastes.

in which nothing much happens, you get to see a Catbus, and mysteriously are walking two feet off the ground from the sheer sweet wonder of it all.

Gads, I LOVE Miyazaki!!

And I'd add "Burn After Reading," a movie "about a bunch of VERY stupid people" as co-star George Clooney described it.

He's a master at bringing forth that pure yet compelling wonder of fantasy to all audiences. You don't have to be young in years to love his realities

I still haven't seen "Burn After Reading" so I think I'll get on Netflix and add it now. I like goofy comedies, and I like Clooney. Which is why I'm looking forward to "Hail, Caesar!" though I don't know how goofy it'll be, just funny

watching Miyazaki's magical worlds. You BELIEVE. He creates worlds of genuine wonder the Mouse Machine could never begin to imagine. Miyazaki is to Dizney what Rembrandt is to a kid with crayons.

Disney in the past has created worlds that do draw you into fantastic lands and scenes. Not so much with their stuff today, thanks in part to their reliance on 3D animation. And I'm glad Brad Bird got his 'education' in animation from Disney's studios. We might never have had the likes of The Iron Giant, and yes, the 3D "The Incredibles"

The Japanese do use 3D in some of their 'flat' anime, whether overtly or in the modeling of things, such as complex machines. Metropolis does that and I thought it meshed very well with the hand-drawn animation.
